SSC Steno C and D Exam pattern

The SSC or Staff Selection Commission conducts the SSC Stenographer for Grade C and D in two stages- Computer based examination and Skill based test. To qualify for both the levels of exam, students must gain an understanding of the exam pattern which will help them prepare properly for the same.

 

The important details of the exam are given below-

  • There will be Objective type multiple choice questions in the paper
  • The mode of exam will be both Hindi & English
  • There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer

The marks scored by candidates in the Computer Based Test (CBT) will be normalised with the formula published by the Commission and these normalised scores will be used for determining the final merit and cut-off marks.

Skill Test

Candidates shortlisted in the CBT need to appear for the skill test for stenography. There will be one dictation for 10 minutes in Hindi or English based on the option chosen by the candidate in the application form at the speed of 100 words per minute (WPM) for the post of Stenographer Grade C. For the post of Stenographer Grade D, the speed is 80 wpm. The matter needs to be transcripted on the computer.

  • Candidates opting for Hindi Stenography will need to learn English Stenography and vice versa
  • In case they don’t follow the same, their probation may not be cleared by the departments appointing them
  • Candidates will have to work with Hindi or English Stenographers depending on the requirement irrespective of the medium of Skill Test
  • The test will be held at Commission’s Regional Officers or Centres
  • Detailed instructions will be provided by the concerned Regional Offices of the Commission to the candidates called for the test
