India celebrates October 31st as Sardar Patel Jayanti. This day is also known as National Unity Day. On this day, the whole nation pays tribute to the great Sardar Vallabh Patel. On the occasion of his birthday auspicious day, people celebrate to honour him for playing a major role in building the nation as united and unbreakable. His full name is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, he is also famous as the Iron Man of India. He was born in the Nadiad district of Gujarat. Sardar Patel was one of the greatest leaders who influenced the leaders most during the independence time of India. He was a great follower of Mahatma Gandhi and also took part to organize different satyagraha movements. When Mahatma Gandhi launched the Civil Disobedience movement he was an active participant in that. 

How and Where Sardar Vallabhbhai Jayanti is Celebrated?

On this day various activities and programs are organized for the children of schools and colleges. The purpose of celebrating this day is to encourage children to know more about him and how to maintain the nation’s unity and do better for its development. Different programs are being organized at different places with the theme of strengthening, unification and stronger nation bonding. Every year, October 31st is blocked as Sardar Patel’s Jayanti. People all over the nation celebrate it with great joy and admiration.

His birthday is announced as a regional holiday in Gujarat. In other parts of Gujarat as well, different functions and celebrations will be planned and celebrated on the same day. A few of the activities are as follows – 

  • This day will be marked with the pledge-taking ceremonies which is followed by spreading unity.
  • A march past is also organized by the police and NCC cadets to generate a positive attitude towards the nation’s growth.
  • Also, in Major Dhyanchand Stadium, the Unity Run was also flagged by the Union Home Minister. This was conducted with all the society sections to reinforce the Union Symbol.
  • Prime minister Narendra Modi took the pledge of integrity and celebrated Sardar Patel’s  145th birthday. During this celebration, the Prime Minister participated in the Ekta Diwas parade and the Aerial Floral show was also organized for paying tribute to Sardar Patel

Sardar Patel’s contribution to India’s unity and his massive contribution to integrating the British colonial provinces gave him the title of “Unifier of India”. The “Statue of Unity” mark his contribution to our nation. This is one of the tallest statues in the world and it is the symbol which signifies achievements and glory. To make his struggle to build the nation’s unity and strength post-independence, Sardar Patel Jayanti is celebrated with great respect by the people of India.
