1. India was the first T20 World Cup winner in 2007

In 2007, the Indian cricket team became the first to win and retain the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The competition was held in South Africa. India hit the field with many fresh faces, and MS Dhoni was tasked with captaining the team.

However, it was postponed until 2021 because of the current COVID-19 epidemic.

Geoff Allardice, the CEO of the International Cricket Council, indicated in April 2021 that backup preparations are still in place if India cannot host the event because of the catastrophic COVID-19 outbreak. Dhiraj Malhotra of the BCCI acknowledged that the UAE would be utilised as a backup plan if the present COVID-19 outbreak in India worsened.

The BCCI recommended the names of the cities that would host the future matches on April 17, 2021: Bangalore, Chennai, Dharamshala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and New Delhi. The grand final of the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is proposed for Ahmedabad.
