The list of Cricket World Cup Winners from 1975 until 2019 is a glorious record in the cricket world. It’s the ODI championship, which takes place every four years across various continents. It is regarded as one of the most popular sporting events worldwide.
The top eight teams of the ICC ODI ranking are eligible to play in the tournament by default. The rest of the teams must compete for the remaining spots. There is no definite number of teams that participate in this competition.

1975 Cricket World Cup
England announced the first cricket World Cup. 8 teams were part of the first edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup.
West Indies won the inaugural season of the World Cup. Australia finished second in the very first World Cup. It was a 60-over World Cup. West Indian captain Clive Lloyd was the first captain to win the world cup.
1979 Cricket World Cup
England hosted the event twice. There were 8 participants again. Similar to the previous tournament, each team was represented, but Canada was the team playing in place of East Africa. A total of 15 matches were there in the tournament. West Indies won the title for the second time under Clive Lloyd’s captaincy.
1983 Cricket World Cup
Three times in succession, England was the host nation. In this tournament, eight teams played a total of 27 matches. Zimbabwe was the team participating in the World Cup in Canada’s place this time. The other teams were the same.
1987 Cricket World Cup
The 1987 World Cup was the 4th edition, also called the Reliance cup. India and Pakistan together hosted the event. The similar nations as the previous edition were present in this tournament.
1993 Cricket World Cup
Australia and New Zealand held the 5th edition of the cricket World Cup. Nine teams took part in the tournament. There were 39 games. The nine countries included Pakistan, New Zealand, Australia, India, England, South Africa, West Indies, and Sri Lanka.
1996 Cricket World Cup
The 1996 World Cup was also referred to as “the Wills World Cup 1996”. India, Pakistan & Sri Lanka jointly hosted the event. Sri Lanka was the first to host the tournament. Twelve teams participated in the World Cup.
Also, this was the first time when Sri Lanka won this World Cup under captain Arjuna Ranatunga. Australia was with a 2nd place finish.
1999 Cricket World Cup
It was the 7th cricket World Cup played in England, Wales, Ireland, and Scotland. Steve Waugh, the Aussie captain, won the tournament after defeating Pakistan in the finals.
2003 Cricket World Cup
This was the eighth year of the ICC Cricket World Cup. South Africa, Kenya, and Zimbabwe hosted the event. Sachin Tendulkar was awarded the Man of the Series award for his outstanding batting performance in the World Cup with 673 runs.
2007 Cricket World Cup
The Caribbean nations hosted the 2007 Cricket World Cup. 16 teams from across the globe participated in the World Cup. The nations fought in 51 matches, but Sri Lanka and Australia made their place in the finals.
2011 ICC World Cup
This year’s edition of the World Cup was hosted by India, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh together. 14 countries participated in the tournament. There were 49 games. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, India finally won the World Cup in 2011 after a long time of 28 years of defeat by winning against Sri Lanka.
2015 Cricket World Cup
The 11th World Cup was played in New Zealand and Australia. 14 teams from all over the world took part in this World cup. These teams played 49 games between them. After beating New Zealand under Michael Clarke’s captaincy, Australia took the title in the finals.
2019 ICC World Cup
The 12th edition of this World Cup was hosted by England & Wales. 10 teams from all over the world competed against each other in the series. There were 48 games.
