National Game of India

Despite the increasing popularity of cricket and hockey, there isn’t an official national game in India. While some experts believe hockey is India’s most popular national sport, there isn’t an official confirmation of this.

The most popular time for hockey for the Indian Hockey team was between 1928 and 1956 when they won all seven Olympic gold medals in a row. The team’s success was due to the demise of the legendary player Dhyan Chand, the introduction of Astroturf (still an uncommon sport in India) and numerous playing hockey Anglo Indians emigrated to Australia.

Why Hockey?

Hockey was selected as an official National Game because of the team’s exceptional distinction and unmatched ability at the time. India had played 24 Olympic Games and won all of them in the period, scoring a tally of 178 goals while conceding just seven goals.

The only other accomplishments of the team in the following years are the gold medals won at 1964’s Tokyo Olympics and the 1980 Moscow Olympics. The black magical Indian touch and ball juggling phobias are nearly extinct.

Maybe we require higher-quality coaches, greater funds and facilities, and more practice on Astroturf, an easier surface than grass, where our hockey team needs training.

Teaching gifted kids hockey at the school level is a great idea, providing the necessary funds, education and facilities to protect their Indian glory.
