Malaysia has said that orangutans will be gifted to trade partners who buy the country’s palm oil.

- This way, Malaysia can distance itself from accusations of unsustainability made against palm oil plantations.
About Orangutan:
- They are great apes, native to Indonesia and Malaysia.
- Only found in the islands of Borneo and Sumatra.
- They live among the trees of tropical rainforests.
- There are 3 species of orangutan. The Bornean, the Sumatran and the recently confirmed new species (as of 2017), the Tapanuli.
- IUCN Status: Critically Endangered.
