Why in news?
- Spain has become the 99th member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
- Spain handed over the ISA Instrument of Ratification during a meeting between Spain’s Ambassador to India.
About ISA:
- 2015: An intergovernmental organization that was launched by the Prime Minister of India and the President of France, at the United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Paris.
- It is an alliance of more than 120 signatory countries, most being sunshine countries, which lie either completely or partly between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.
- HQ: Gurugram, Haryana.
- Objective: to provide a dedicated platform for cooperation among solar resource rich countries and the wider global community – including bilateral and multilateral organizations, industry and other stakeholders – to support the increasing use of solar energy.
- All member states of the United Nations are eligible to join the ISA.
