Swedish Researchers have successfully created a material called Goldene.
About Goldene:
- It was created by putting a single atomic layer of silicon between layers of titanium carbide.
- Gold was deposited on top of this structure.
- The gold atoms diffused into the material and replaced the silicon atoms, forming a monolayer of gold atoms.
- Scientists then removed the layers of titanium carbide to produce a free-standing sheet of gold that was only one atom thick.
Applications:
- It could be used as a catalyst in the electronic industry.
- In carbon dioxide conversion, hydrogen-generating catalysis, and selective production of value-added chemicals.
- Goldene may have an impact on the processes involved in producing hydrogen, which would advance the development of sustainable energy technology.
- It could be utilized in the water purification process.
