Krishi ICCC – To Leverage Technology for the Advancement of Agricultural Practices: 27 Mar 2024

Why in news?

  • Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare inaugurated the Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) at Krishi Bhawan, Delhi.

About Krishi ICCC:

Responsible Ministry

  • Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare

Objective

  • Empower farmers by providing them with digital technology-based information, services, and facilities.
  • Comprehensive monitoring of the farm sector by making available at one place geospatial information received from multiple sources.

Advanced Technologies for Data Processing

  • Artificial intelligence, remote sensing, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to collect and process large amounts of granular data — on temperatures, rainfall, wind speed, crop yields and production estimations.

Some examples of Practical Application

  • Farm Data Repository: Krishi Decision Support System (K-DSS), a platform under development, will act as an agriculture data repository. It will streamline data-driven decision-making and assist in creating customized advisories for farmers.
  • Crop Diversification: Studying crop diversification maps and field variability for paddy helps decision-makers find areas suitable for different crops, allowing better advice for farmers.

In the future, the ICCC can establish an ecosystem to generate personalized farmer advisories through apps like Kisan e-mitra, a chatbot designed for PM-Kisan beneficiaries.
