India tests Agni-V missile equipped with MIRV technology : 12 Mar 2024

Agni-V Missile Test Details:

  • Test conducted from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, off Odisha’s coast.
  • Developed by: Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). 

Agni-V with MIRV Technology:

  • India tests Agni-V missile, incorporating Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology.
  • MIRV allows a single missile to carry multiple warheads targeting different locations.

Advantages of MIRV-Equipped Missiles:

  • Multiple damages with a single strike.
  • Ability to penetrate missile defense systems by overwhelming them with multiple warheads.
  • Strategic benefit for countries with a no-first-use nuclear policy by ensuring crippling damage in a retaliatory strike.

Agni-V can travel over 5,000 km, potentially entering intercontinental range.
