US Open 2022: Complete List of Winners

Alcaraz Garcia won his maiden Grand Slam title. Ruud, who was 19, became the youngest player to attain the top spot.

The 2022 US Open concluded on Sunday after two weeks of continuous activity. For various reasons, veterans Serena Williams & Rafael Nadal stole the show at the start of the competition. The 23-time Grand Slam winner participated in her final match before retiring after a third-round loss against Ajla Tomljanovic.

Nadal sought to make more history when he was knocked out of the fourth round by Frances Tiafoe. Daniil Medvedev & Emma Raducanu won their first Grand Slam championships at the Open the year before but were unable to retain them this season. The Russian was eliminated in the fourth stage, while the youngster was eliminated in the first round.

About the US Open Championship

  • Though it was not yet recognised as the United States of America. The U.S. Open, the competition that would become the Open, then the U.S. National Championship, was created in 1881 by the U.S. Lawn Tennis Association of America.

Men’s Singles

Carlos Alcaraz won his first Grand Slam after defeating C. Ruud in a nail-biting four-set match. The Spaniard had a solid start to the game and won the opening set 6-4, but Casper Ruud produced a strong recovery and won the second set 6-2 on one side. Carlos Alcaraz defeated Casper Ruud in the tiebreaker to win the third round of the United States Open male’s singles match and take a 2-1 set edge. 

The third set was won by Alcaraz 7-6 (7/1). Alcaraz put up an even stronger performance in the fourth set regarding vigour and poise. The kid won his maiden Grand Slam after winning the set 6-3. He also became the youngest global number one due to the title victory in New York.

Women's Singles

In the United States,  Iga Swiatek trounced Ons Jabeur of Tunisia, winning 6-2 7-6(5). She won her first medal at Flushing Meadows & her third Grand Slam title in the Open final on Saturday. O. Jabeur is in second place. Swiatek of Poland collapsed on her back and buried her face with both hands after winning the close second-set tiebreak after fifth seed Jabeur’s ball flew long. Swiatek, a two-time French Open winner, won her maiden Grand Slam championship on hard court, and she’s the only Polish woman to do it.

Men’s Doubles

In the championship match, Wesley Koolhof & Neal Skupski were beaten by reigning champions Rajeev Ram & Joe Salisbury. After Todd Woodbridge & Mark Woodforde in 1996, they were the second team within the Open Era to actively defend the United States Open title.

By winning the competition, Salisbury kept his ATP No. 1 doubles ranking. Bruno Soares, a six-time significant doubles winner and former No. 2 in the world in doubles, made his final professional participation in this competition. Bruno was defeated by Hugo Nys and Jan Zielinski, playing with Jamie Murray in the second round. When the score in the deciding set reaches six games, there will, for the first time at the US Open, be a 10-point tie-break.

Women’s Doubles

In the women’s doubles final of the 2022 US Open at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Krejcikova and Siniakova defeated Caty McNally & Taylor Townsend after falling behind a set and a break. They did so by winning 12 of the final 14 games.

Barbora Krejcikova & Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic assembled a Hall of Fame-calibre resume in less than five years. Still, one piece of hardware had escaped the duo throughout their incredible run: a title in New York.

Mixed Doubles

Storm Sanders with John Peers from Australia defeated Kirsten Flipkens & Edouard Roger-Vasselin to claim the United States Open mixed doubles championship. Peers, who’d already made 31 prior appearances before pairing up with Sanders for the first time in this competition, won his first mixed doubles title. He finished the match’s tiebreak with an ace, and the duo prevailed 4-6, 6-4, 10-7.
