The most fascinating and dominating era in women’s tennis is coming to an end! Serena Williams, the most successful tennis player in the open era has decided to “evolve away from tennis”. On Tuesday, she announced her plans to retire from the game after dominating the game for the past 27 years. She will be last seen in the US Open which will be starting on 29th August 2022.

Serena Williams’ Domination in World Tennis

Serene Williams started playing tennis at a young age. Trained under her parents Richard Williams and Oracene Price, she didn’t take much time to be noticed. Although she was under the shadow of her sister Venus Williams for a while, she didn’t take much time to make her presence known. Sooner she became a legendary tennis player, an iconic star, and one of the most influential athletes in the world.

Serena Williams’ started her professional career at the age of 14 in 1995 and won her first Grand Slam in the 1998 Australian Open, the mixed doubles title with Max Mirnyi. She later won French Open 1999 women’s doubles with her sister. Her maiden singles Grand Slam came in the US Open in 1999 where she defeated Martina Hingis and went on to win 22 more Grand Slam titles over her career.

Her 23 titles are the greatest by any player in the open era, male or female. Her 23 Grand Slams are only second to Margaret Court’s 24 titles. She has also won 73 WTA singles titles, 14 doubles Grand Slams and a whopping 4 Olympic Golds (one single and three doubles) as well.

Serena Williams’ Grand Slam Titles

One of the greatest achievements of her career is winning a Career Grand Slam (winning all 4 Grand Slams at least once) in both singles and doubles, the first ever by a tennis player. All her doubles titles have been with her sister Venus Williams.
