Seating arrangements examples usually have questions that test the candidate’s ability to think and imagine certain situations like puzzles in the brain and answer them in the least time possible. This article revolves around the verbal reasoning seating arrangement. We will see some seating arrangements examples to understand this topic because it has been seen that students face trouble solving problems in efficient time duration.

What Is A Seating Arrangement?

Let’s understand what a seating arrangement is by one example. Suppose you and five of your friends went to a group party at one of your friend’s houses. Since it was a nice and wholesome group party that had five members, there should be some fun. So, you thought to make the best use of the moment and time by playing a game called “Passing The Parcel”. Now, most people know what this game is all about, etc. But, for someone who knows nothing about this amazing group game.

Here is a short paragraph on the “Passing The Parcel” game. To play this game, there are certain conditions that have to be satisfied. First of all, this game can only be played if you have more than two players in your group, and secondly, there should be one person who will get the responsibility to play and pause the music. Now, let’s get to the rules. There will be an object such as a pillow, a box, or any light substance that will be shared among all the members of the group. The object can only be shared with adjacent members and the flow of the transfer of the object should be unidirectional. The other person will play any music or song, and when the music begins the object distribution begins. Each member of the game has to sit up in a way that they should occupy spaces and combine together to form a circle.

This is where the seating arrangement comes into the picture. You and your friends have many options to sit wherever they want. They all are free and have unlimited choices in their hand to choose any position they want and sit. The order in which your friends are sitting doesn’t matter. If there are conditions applied to each of the five members that they cannot sit wherever they want and they have to follow a certain fixed order, then that situation is nothing but a seating arrangement problem statement.

Later, I have covered some seating arrangements examples to help you clear all your problems in deriving seating arrangements answers.

Seating Arrangements Assumptions

There are some assumptions that every student has to keep in mind before solving any seating arrangement examples.

  1. The top direction in your answer sheet page is taken as the North direction unless something different has been specified in the question.
  2. The right direction of your answer sheet page is the left side of the viewer.

Seating Arrangements Examples

Type 1: – Arrangement in a straight line (linear pattern)

Example. Suppose there are six friends Akshay, Aamir, Shahrukh, Salman, Varun, and Sushant. All of these people sit in two rows with three people in each row. If Varun is not at any end of the rows, Salman is second to the left of Sushant, Shahrukh is the neighbor of Varun and is sitting diagonally opposite to Salman and Aamir is the neighbor of Sushant, then who will sit opposite Aamir?

Option1. Akshay

Option2. Varun

Option3. Shahrukh

Option4. Salman

Answer: The answer to this seating arrangement linear problem can be solved by plotting two tables as two rows facing each other and then placing each person on the basis of the conditions given in the question.

If we plot the table as per the conditions, we will get a table like this.

Row 1. Akshay —–Varun —— Shahrukh

Row 2. Salman —–Aamir —— Sushant

Therefore, Varun is sitting opposite Aamir.

Type 2: –  Arrangement in a circle (circular arrangement)

Example. There are five friends standing in a circle together. Aryan is standing between Ayush and Adarsh. Aman is standing on the left of Ajeet. Ayush is standing on the left of Aman. Who is standing next to Aryan on his right?

Option1. Aman

Option2. Adarsh

Option3. Ajeet

Option4. Ayush

Answer: The answer to this seating arrangement circular problem can be solved by plotting all five friends on a circular table facing each other and then placing each person on the basis of the conditions given in the question.

If we make all these friends stand around the table in the exact way as guided by the problem. Then we will get this orientation.

Hence, Ayush is standing next to Aryan.
