Logical reasoning is a section that is very important in many important examinations. It makes up for a considerable section of question papers. It is objectively the most scorable section of any question paper. It is very easy to score high marks in logical reasoning if the steps and rules to logical reasoning are followed perfectly. There are certain portions of logical reasoning which have to be studied carefully. The article discusses those important things. Components like test ranking, alphabet test, and direction test make up logical reasoning. In the following sections, meanings and ranking direction alphabet tests have been discussed.

Test Ranking

Test ranking means tests in logical reasoning that depend on the students finding the specific rank or order of a given question or set. There can also be series. There are two kinds of ranking available:
  • Vertical ranking and ordering of a series
  • Horizontal ranking and ordering of a series
Based on these two approaches, various kinds of reasonings are performed. These reasonings are used to find out what is the order or the rank of a set or series. Test ranking is done on the following topics but is certainly not limited to these alone:
  • Data Analysis
  • Puzzles of Reasoning
  • Alphanumerical Series
  • The analogy of Reasoning
  • Data Sufficiency

Alphabet Test

In logical reasoning, the alphabet test is another quite important aspect. It is also very easy out of all other types of alphabet test. It forms one of the fundamental bases in government examinations. It is also a very important segment in SSC examination and Banking examinations. There are many arrangements available. Students have to analyse these arrangements carefully and then find out a given placement of a word or even an alphabet n that arrangement. There are 3 types of orders of alphabet test that most commonly come in tests:
  • Forming a new word- For example, if the word “APPLE” is given, then how many words can be formed with the letters provided in the word?
Solution: 3 (APE, PALE, LEAP)
  • Letter word- For example, take the word ACCESS. How many alphabets are there in that word which is equal steps further away from A in the alphabets as it is in the word?
Solution: 1 (C, it is in the third position in ACCESS and also in the alphabet system)
  • Alphabetical order- For example, Which amongst these words are the most alphabetically arranged?
  • Sore
  • Save
  • Stamp
Solution: Stamp

Direction Test

These tests in logical reasoning can be complicated in some aspects. The direction test is mostly there to test the student’s ability to follow instructions and focus. There are many twists and turns involved while doing a direction test. The direction test in test ranking examines the sense of direction of the student. There are certain criteria that a direction test must meet:
  • It should have a distance measurement between two points of movement
  • It should be on calculating where a point is presently based on its previous relative position
  • It must involve shadow calculations
An example of a direct test can be: If village P is in the west of village T and village E is in the south of village P. And if Village W is in the east of Village E, then in which direction does village W is located relative to village P? Solution: South East P🡪T E🡪W
