What Is Odd Man Out?

This is a general concept to find out an odd element of a group. For Eg: Consider a set of balls, there are six balls out of which five are of green color and one ball is of black color. In this the black ball is the odd one out of the six balls.

How to find Odd Man Out?

The only item or thing in the query that doesn’t follow a certain pattern, group, or rule is the odd one out. To fully grasp the concept of an odd man out, it is necessary to make comparisons between various goods. Because it is a part of aptitude, knowing how to identify the odd man out is crucial. Because it is a part of aptitude, knowing how to identify the odd man out is crucial.

Odd man out can be identified by following a pattern, which is by carefully studying and then describing all of the provided options. The next step is to discover the similarities and differences between the two.

Suppose there is a bucket containing two oranges, an apple, and a ball. The first step is to take a look at what you’re provided and then look for similarities. Two oranges, a green apple, and a ball are filled in the bucket. The ball is the only non-fruit related object in this grouping. In this way, you can identify the anomaly among the items.

Types of Odd Man Out

Mainly it is classified into three types-

  1. Alphabat Classification

  2. Word Classification

  3. Number Classification

Alphabat Classification

In this classification, three letters are maintained together in a group. We need to look at the pattern of grouping and determine which group has the same pattern or relationship between the letters as the others. The response that doesn’t fit the pattern is the best one.

For Example − Find the odd man out.

a – ZW

b – TQ

c – SP

d – NL

e – PM

Solution − Z-3W, T-2Q, S-3P, N-2L, P-3M

So the answer will be NL, which is choice (d).

Word Classification

Common attributes like places, words, parts of speech and occupations are all represented in this type of classifications. The odd one out will be the one that doesn’t fit into that category.

Example

a – Apple

b – Carrot

c – Lemon

d – Mango

e – Banana

Solution − The answer is (b) Carrot, and not (a),(c),(d),(e) because all of them are fruits and (b) is a vegetable.

Number Classification

It is possible to classify a group of integers sharing a common pattern. Here, we’ll see that there are a variety of options. The numbers can be odd, even, prime, rational, cubes, squares, binary bits coded, and so on. There are no restrictions on the kind of numbers that can be used.

Conclusion

This article should help students understand the topic of odd man out better. The fundamentals of odd man out and basic logics of solving odd man out problems were completely covered in this article. Students are free to inquire about anything at any time.
