All About Bodmas Formula

To operate, we need to follow the BODMAS rule in mathematics. This article talks about the BODMAS exercise and a few Practice Questions for a better understanding of the rule and its application.

Bodmas Rule in math is a rule to be followed before solving any question in mathematics. When a mathematical expression contains more than one operation, we have to follow an order for the operations. This order we follow with Bodmas rule. According to Bodmas Rule:

  • B represents brackets.
  • O represents the order of powers or origins.
  • D signifies division.
  • M signifies multiplication.
  • A signifies addition.
  • S signifies Subtraction.

We will further read about the BODMAS rule in math in detail. We will also practice some BODMAS Exercises. So, let’s begin with a better understanding of this concept.

Bodmas Rule in Math

We often encounter brackets, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction expressions in a single question. We might get confused at that time to decide which expression we should first solve. Mathematical expressions can solve these expressions in a particular order of precedence. This order of precedence is known as the BODMAS rule. According to Bodmas Rule:

  • B is for brackets
  • O is for order of powers or origins
  • D is for division
  • M is for multiplication
  • A is for addition
  • S is for Subtraction.

The BODMAS rule in math aids in accurately simplifying the mathematical expression. Rules and logic are the foundations of math. We can compute the given expression correctly using this rule, resulting in the correct answer.

BODMAS Rule Questions

Before going for BODMAS exercises, keep the following things in mind:

  • At first, you need to simplify the brackets if there are any.
  • Then take all the exponential terms and solve them.
  • After this, do division and multiplication.
  • Always go left to right.
  • Then do the addition and subtraction part.
  1. Solve these problems.

24 ÷ (4 + 4 ÷ 2) = ?

Answer. At first, we will go for the part of the bracket. We also find that two expressions are given, i.e., 4+4 and four ÷ 2. So, how are we going to decide which one to solve first? First, we will follow the BODMAS rule inside the bracket and solve four ÷ 2. It will make the expression inside the bracket 4+2. Now add 4+2. 6 will come as a result, i.e., 4+2=6. Now the expression is 24 ÷6. Thus, the answer will be 4.

  1. (x+y)(x-y) =?

Answer: In this case, we have two brackets. The first step is to solve one bracket. We can choose any bracket to be solved (for example, we can choose x – y in the above example)

Now, we’ll take x from (x+y) and multiply it by (x-y)

  1. Which results in x.x-x.y

  2. Now we’ll take y from (x+y) and multiply it by (x-y), which will result in x.y-y.y

Adding 1. And 2., we’ll get

X.x-y.y

BODMAS Exercises:

By Using the BODMAS rule, solve these questions:

  1. 200- [40 +{ 60- ( 30- 10)}]
  2. 24- 1/24 {9+ 7 – (3+ 2- 1 + 3)}
  3. (7*6)/(1.5+2.5)
  4. (15+11)-(6*6)
  5. 9-3*3+6
  6. 99+{6-(-3)[5+6]+25}
  7. (16/4)+3+(10-8)*5
  8. (14 + 19 – 2)
  9. [28 –2(6 + 1)] ÷ 3 + 8
  10. (2 + 40 − 16 ÷ 4²) ÷ ((6 − 3)² + 22 ÷ 2)

While solving these questions, Keep in mind to go with the BODMAS rule. Always remember to follow the priority of operations. The first step is to simplify brackets, then it is followed by powers and roots, then multiplication and division, and finally Addition and Subtraction.

Conclusion

Hence it is concluded that the BODMAS rule in math aids in accurately simplifying the mathematical expression. We can compute the given expression correctly using this rule, resulting in the correct answer. It is also called PEDDMAS in certain regions. We discussed in this article that the first step is to resolve brackets, then powers or roots, division or multiplication, and finally Subtraction or addition, depending on the order in which the left side of the expression is resolved. We also discussed the BODMAS Rule Questions and BODMAS Exercises. After reading this article, I hope all the concepts related to BODMAS will be clear.
