Statement and Conclusion is the section which is required for every competitive exam. A statement is defined as the set of words that are combined together to form a significant and useful sentence while the conclusion is defined as the decision or judgement which appears as the concluding paragraph in the end of the topic after consulting the statements.
In this Statement and Conclusion section, statements are given which are then followed by conclusions and then you have to choose among the options given the conclusion which logically justifies the given statement most. The reader has to analyse the statement and then he/she has to decide the conclusion in accordance with that statement. The conclusion of the statement can either be one or it can be multiple also. The selection of Statement and Conclusion depends on the perceptions of the reader to discover the statement and then reach to the correct conclusion.
Statement and Conclusion example;
1) Question
Statement: Reena is the only daughter of Ramesh and Mini.
Conclusion:
I- Ramesh and Mini have one daughter.
II- Reena has two brothers.
A) Only Conclusion I is correct.
B) Only Conclusion II is correct.
C) Both of them are correct.
D) Neither of them is accepted
E) Either Conclusion I or Conclusion 2 is accepted.
Answer: Option A is correct because the statement says that Reena is the only daughter of Ramesh and Mini which signifies that Reena is the only child of their parents and does not have sisters or brothers.
Types of Conclusion
The types of conclusion are as follows;
A) Direct Conclusion:
In this type of questions, the conclusion can be identified directly from the statement. This type of question requires little attention from the reader and can be solved within 5 seconds. The question in which the statement is given which has to be analysed by the reader and directly identify the conclusion is known as direct conclusion question or statement.
Conclusion Example;
Statement: Meera is the only daughter of Suresh and Meena.
Conclusion:
I- Suresh and Meena have one daughter.
II- Meera has two sisters.
A) Only Conclusion I is correct.
B) Only Conclusion II is correct.
C) Both of them are correct.
D) Neither of them is accepted
E) Either Conclusion I or Conclusion 2 is accepted.
Answer: Option A is correct because the statement says that Meera is the only daughter of Suresh and Meena which signifies that Meera is the only child of their parents and does not have sisters.
B) Indirect Conclusion
In this type of conclusion, the reader has to pay full attention to the statement and after understanding and judging the statement properly, he/she has to decide the conclusion. It requires enhanced knowledge with proper logic and also requires the reader to be careful and attentive while reading the statement.
Conclusion Example;
Statement: The panel board announced that the shortlisted candidates will be only the one who scored minimum 70% in their competitive exam. Meera scored 65% marks in her 10th class and 80% in her 12th board exams and further scored 76% in the competitive exam.
Conclusion:
I- Meera is not shortlisted
II- Meera is Shortlisted
A) Only Conclusion I is correct.
B) Only Conclusion II is correct.
C) Both of them are correct.
D) Neither of them is accepted
E) Either Conclusion I or Conclusion 2 is accepted.
Answer: Option II is correct but the reader has to carefully read the statement because indirectly it is saying that she is not shortlisted as she scored less marks in 10th board exams.
Conclusion
Statement and Conclusion works in the manner that the reader has to carefully analyse the statement given in the question and after that he/she has to decide the right or correct conclusion. The conclusion may be either direct or indirect conclusion or it may have a single option or multiple option. It is the most important logical reasoning section of any type of competitive exam.
