What is the ‘One Health’ Pilot Project?

• Over the years, the climate has changed significantly, along with the usage of land. For instance, this can be seen in the practice of deforestation and the intensive use of land per the practice of farming within the country. Therefore, new diseases can come to the surface with the alteration in the ecological habitats and conditions.
• With the onset of globalization, there has been a significant rise in internal and global trade, along with international traveling. Therefore, the spread of diseases across the world and international borders is easy.
• In addition to these, the population has increased significantly over the years- extending its limit to several new demographic areas. Therefore, people end up living in very proximity to several environments, making it easier for them to get diseases. 

The One Health Pilot project approach can help the surrounding in the following ways- 

• Increase in the quality, safety, and security of food.
• Helps in the protection of the security of global health.
• Outbreaks of zoonotic diseases concerning the people and the animals. 
• This approach also helps in the reduction of antibiotic-resistant infections.
• This approach also helps in the improvement of animal and human health.

Uttarakhand’s One Health Project

The Government of India’s Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying started a pilot project in Uttarakhand, which helps in the implementation of the One Health Framework through the One Health Support Unit. The project pilot in Uttarakhand supports the creation of the framework of One Health. The principal objective behind this One Health Pilot Project is the national one health roadmap. This approach and its objective are based on the principle of the learnings of pilot project implementation. 

The one Health Pilot Project was launched by the Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying- in presence of the Commissioner of Animal Husbandry, the Director of the poverty alleviation Bill with the Melinda Gates Foundation, and other significant members of the several ministries of the Government of India. 

The Pilot Project remembers standardizing the component for the information collected on the illness episodes, the management, and the improvement of the designated reconnaissance plan, coordinating organizations of the research center, creating and carrying out correspondence techniques across areas, and the incorporating the information with the computerized engineering of the National Digital Livestock Mission. 

It was pointed out that the One Health Pilot Project was initiated will look at the stake holding of several sectors of the sectors, for improve the livestock, human, wildlife, and environmental health with the help of finance and technology. This project helps strengthen the social infrastructure which supports the planet and the people living in it.
