The Indian Government introduced the gallantry awards to pay the deserved honor and respect for the determined and courageous acts of bravery to fight for one’s life for the sake of the country’s safety by Army officials and personnel on 26th January 2950. These awards are precious and designated for the country’s pride. The gallantry awards happen twice every year, one on the 26th of January on Republic Day, and the subsequent award occurs on the 15th of August on Independence Day. What Is Param Vir Chakra?
The Param Vir Chakra is the highest and the topmost level of the gallantry award out of three gallantry awards under the category of the face of the enemy. Param Vir Chakra has been awarded to only 21 personalities in India. Out of the 21 award winners, 14 award winners got the Param Vir Chakra after their demise. Out of the 21 award winners, only one was from the Air force’s background, and the remaining 20 were from the Army background.
No one from the Indian Navy has ever won a Param Vir Chakra to date. Even though all three branches are eligible for the Param Vir Chakra. The one who receives the Param Vir Chakra medal also gets monetary benefits from the Indian government of ten thousand per month. Somnath Sharma was the first citizen from India to win a Param Vir Chakra.

The Maha Vir Chakra stands in second place among four gallantry awards awarded to salute and pay honor for the bravery of Army officials. The Maha Vir Chakra is made up of a silver medal in a circular shape.
Officers of all ranks positioned either in the Army, the Air Force, or the Navy are completely eligible irrespective of their genders. The one who receives the Maha Vir Chakra medal also gets monetary benefits from the Indian government of ten thousand per month. Eleven Maha Vir Chakras were awarded to Indian Air Force personnel after the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971.
