Urban Population as per Census 2011 of Bihar

Bihar is one of the states of India, located in the eastern part of the country. Read this blog to know about the urban population of this state.

The state is bordered by Nepal to its north, West Bengal to its east, Uttar Pradesh to its west and south, and Jharkhand to its southeast. With a population of over 103 million (as per the 2011 census), it is the third most populous state in India after Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Of these, 87.29% live in rural areas while 12.71% live in urban areas.

The capital city of Bihar is Patna, which is also its largest city with a population of over two million people. Other major cities include Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur and Darbhanga.

Population of Bihar

Bihar has an area of 94,163 km² and a population density of 110 persons per km². The state’s literacy rate is 61.80%.

The majority of the urban population in Bihar lives in poverty, with little to no access to basic amenities or healthcare. As per the 2011 census, the urban poverty rate in Bihar was 47.53%, which is significantly higher than the national average of 28.61%. In terms of health, only 38% of households in urban areas have access to sanitation facilities, and just over half have access to safe drinking water.

Despite these challenges, there are some positive signs for the future of urban areas in Bihar. The state’s economy has been growing at a rapid pace in recent years, and this is likely to continue as the government continues to invest in infrastructure and development. The number of households with access to electricity has increased significantly in recent years, and more schools and hospitals are being built.

Sex Ratio in Urban Papulation of Bihar

The sex ratio in urban areas of Bihar is quite skewed. In 2010, the sex ratio in urban areas was found to be 950 females per 1000 males. The child sex ratio (0-12 years) in urban regions was also found to be very low at just 920 girls per 1000 boys.

This situation is a result of various factors such as female infanticide, underreporting of births of girls, and migration of people from rural to urban areas in search of better opportunities.

The skewed sex ratio has many implications for the state of Bihar. It leads to an imbalance in the number of men and women in the population, which can have negative effects on economic growth and development. Additionally, it increases the likelihood of violence against women and makes it difficult for women to find suitable marriage partners.

Initiatives by Government for Population of Bihar

The state government is also working on a number of initiatives to improve the quality of life for residents of urban areas.

The state government of Bihar has taken some steps to address the issue of the skewed sex ratio. In 2013, the government launched a scheme called the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” (Save Girls, Educate Girls) campaign to create awareness about the importance of girl child education and to prevent female infanticide.

The government has also set up women’s self-help groups and provided them with financial assistance to help them start their own businesses. Additionally, the government has established women’s police stations and fast-track courts to deal with crimes against women.

While these initiatives are a step in the right direction, more needs to be done to improve the situation of women in Bihar. There is a need to create more awareness about the importance of girl child education and to provide financial assistance to women’s self-help groups. Additionally, the government needs to do more to protect women from violence and ensure that they have access to justice.
