An urban agglomeration in India is a continuous urban spread constituting a town and its adjoining outgrowths (OGs), or two or more physically contiguous towns together with or without outgrowths of such towns.

This study aims to examine the population and development of Uttar Pradesh (UP), a densely populated Indian state. This article will present the status of all UP districts in terms of a few socio-demographic characteristics. According to the findings, some districts in Uttar Pradesh outperform many states, while others lag far behind compared to developed states and India.

Uttar Pradesh – UP has a total population of 199,812,341, of which 155,317,278 live in rural areas, and 44,495,063 live in urban areas.

Maharashtra – Maharashtra has a total population of 112,374,333,, of which 61,556,074 live in rural areas ,and 50,818,259 in urban areas.

Bihar – The total population of Bihar is around 104,099,452,,of which 92,341,436 are from rural areas,,and 11,758,016 live in an Urban Area.

Rajasthan – Rajasthan is home to around 68,548,437 people, of whom 51,500,352 live in rural areas, and 17,048,085 live in urban areas.

Karnataka – Karnataka has a total population of 61,095,297, among which 30,069,335 are from rural areas, and 31,025,962 live in urban areas.

Gujarat – Gujarat has a population of approximately 60,439,692, of which 34,694,609 reside in rural areas, whereas 25,745,083 live in urban areas.

Andhra Pradesh – There are 49,577,103 people in Andhra Pradesh, of which 34,966,693 live in rural areas, and 14,610,410 live in urban areas.

Urban Agglomeration Example

There is a city centre, for example, and an area that surrounds the city. The term agglomeration is derived from the coexistence of suburbs and urban centres. An agglomeration is a built-up area of a city-region that can be found both within and outside of the city centre.

For the Census of India 2011, the definition of the urban area is as follows; 

Local governments, corporations, cantonment boards, town area committees, etc.

There were also these other places that satisfied the following criteria: 

  • There should be a minimum population of 5,000;
  • Men working in the nonagricultural sector make up the majority of the population.
  • A population density of at least 400 inhabitants per square mile kilometre.
