The Earth Awards
The Champion of the Earth awards was established by the United Nations environment program in the year 2005. It is recognised as an annual awards program for the environmental leaders who come from the public sector and the private sector of the civil body. There are about 5-7 laureates who are Annually selected, each of them is invited to the award giving ceremony so that they can receive their trophies and be a part of the press conference. There are no financial awards given to them by the authorities.
The award program successor to the UNEP’s awards is the Global 500 Roll of Honour. In the year 2017 this program was expanded so that it could include the “young champions of the earth” too. This is a type of ceremony in which they look forward to giving awards to the younger minds, mainly the people who are aged between 18 to 30 and have shown their outstanding potential of creating a very positive environment for the people. This initiative runs under the partnership with the plastics company, Covestro. This Award is presented every year under the program of “United States Environment Program”
