In Maharashtra, there are various rivers flowing through the state, and because of this, there are several dams in the state. Like all dams, these dams are also used in storing water, and it also makes sure that the nearby villages and towns can use this in a good manner. There are some dams in Maharashtra which have also been converted into hydroelectric power plants. In Maharashtra, we all know that the tourists’ number increases every time, and one of the places that attract them to visit Maharashtra is the dance. This is so because there are beautiful locations that a person can see from such dams.

Salient Features of a few major dams in Maharashtra

Koyna Dam

This dam is located around a distance of 50 km from the district Aurangabad. The exact location of the Koyna dam is located in the town named Koyna Nagar, which gives the name to the dam. This particular Dam covers the Godavari River and is built on it. It is also among the largest dances in Maharashtra. This particular dam is also known as the lifeline of Maharashtra. It also features the largest electric power plant in India. In history, this particular dam has overcome many serious earthquakes, and because of some earthquakes, there have been only a few cracks. This is also a famous tourist spot as it gives a very beautiful view whenever the gates of this particular dam open. 

Anandwadi Dam

Anandwadi Dam is located around the district of Osmanabad in Maharashtra. The nearest city to this dam is Latur or Chakur. Anandwadi dam is built on the river named Local Nallah. The major use of this particular dam is in irrigation, and it is also a part of the Krishna basin. Anandwadi dam was completed in 2002, and it is also an earthen type of dam.

Mula Dam

Mulla dam was built in 1974 and is near the village of Baragoan Nandur. The major purpose of building this dam was to provide water to all the nearby villages. This water supply was done from the Dnyaneshwar Sagar reserve wire. It also attracts tourists because of its beautiful scenery. Rahuri district and Ahmednagar districts are the towns that benefited from this particular time. 

Andhali Dam

Andala dam is situated on the river Man and is near the city of Man. This dam is located in the district Satara of Maharashtra and is also one of the Krishna basins. The major purpose of this dam was irrigation, and it was completed in the year 1997. It is an earthen type of dam. 

Mulshi Dam

Mulshi dam is constructed in Pune and is over the Mula river. The major purpose of this dam is for irrigation. It is also one of the best hydro tourism destinations in Maharashtra and provides water and electricity to the nearby towns. It has a very beautiful landscape as well, which is a major attraction for tourists. 

Anchale Dam

The Anchale dam is located on the river Kanheri in Maharashtra. It is near the city of Dhule and is a part of the Tapi basin. The major purpose of this dam is irrigation, and it was completed in 1983. It is also an earthen type of dam. 

Ujjani Dam

Ujjani Dam is also known as we were done. It is constructed on the Krishna river tributary, which is known as the Bhima River. There is a lake that is formed by this dam and is known as Bhadalwadi lake. It gives a very beautiful sight on the sides of the dam, and monsoon is considered the best time to go and see this down because the river and the Lake that surrounds the dam have crystal clear water.
