Punjab is a state in India situated in the northwestern section of the country. It is bordered on the north by Jammu and Kashmir union territory, on the northeast by Himachal Pradesh state, on the south and southeast by Haryana state, on the southwest by Rajasthan state, and on the west by Pakistan. When most of Punjab’s literacy rate, largely Hindi-speaking districts, were divided to form the new state of Haryana on November 1, 1966, Punjab took on its current form.
