Maharashtra is a state in India that is located in the western and central peninsular region. It takes up a large portion of the Deccan plateau. The second most populated state in India is Maharashtra. It was formed on 1st May in the year 1960, by dividing the Bombay State. 

Maharashtra is split into 6 divisions and 36 districts. The capital of it is Mumbai, the most densely populated and well developed city in India. The total area of it is 307,713 square kilometers. It is also the third largest state in India if considered with respect to area. The Arabian Sea lies on the west, the states of Goa and Karnataka in the south, the state of Telangana to the south east, Chhattisgarh to the east, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh to the north, and the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu to the north west. 

The Population of Maharashtra as Per the Census 2011

According to the details of the Census 2011, the total population of Maharashtra was approximated to be 11.24 crores. There was an increase in the population graph in Maharashtra from the year 2001 to the year 2011. There was an increase of 9.69 crores from 2001 to 2011. 

The exact figure of the population of Maharashtra as per the Census 2011 was 112,374,333 out of which the population of males was 58,243,056 and the population of females was 54,131,277. 

In the year 2001, the significant figure of the population of Maharashtra was given as 96,878,627 out of which the population of males was 50,400,569 and the population of females was 46,748,031.

The total population growth from the year 2001 to the year 2011 was 15,99 %. Maharashtra forms 9.28 % of India’s total population.

According to the Census 2011, the most populated district of Maharashtra was announced to be the Thane district. The result was released by the Directorate of Census Operations in Maharashtra. The actions of each person were also recorded by the census officials in Thane in Maharashtra. 

During the year 2011, the population of the Thane district was estimated to be 11,060,148. Out of 11,060,148, the population of males was found to be 5,865,078 and the population of females was found to be 5,195,070.

In the census of 2001, the total population of the Thane district was estimated to be 8,131,849. Out of 8,131,849, the population of males was found to be 4,377,747 and the population of females was found to be 3,754,102.

The total change in population during the decade was 36.01 %. Thane district forms 9.84 % of total Maharashtra’s population.
