The last case of Polio was reported in January 2012 in West Bengal when a young girl got paralyzed by the disease. In March, 2014 WHO certified India as the polio-free region. The health and family welfare minister of India in 2014, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad collected the certificate of ‘Polio-free’ status from WHO.Â
Launch Of Mangalyaan
November 5, 2013 is one of the most important days for Indian Space history. The launch of Mangalyaan took place, which marked India’s first interplanetary space mission. The Mars Orbiter mission spacecraft took off from the Satish Dhawan Space Center at 2:38 pm.Â
India became the first Asian country and fourth country in the world to successfully enter Mars orbit in the first attempt on September 24, 2014. The objective of Mars Orbiter Mission is to collect data and showcase the country’s successful rocket launch systems and spacecraft building capabilities.Â
Western Ghats Termed As A World Heritage Site By UNESCO
The western ghats is one of the hottest landmarks for biological diversity. In 2012, UNESCO included Western Ghats in the list of World Heritage Sites .Â
The range of Western Ghats starts at Gujarat at a stretch of approximately 1600 km long that ends at the southern tip of India at Kanyakumari. There are 5000 species of flowering plants and 288 freshwater species. Many undiscovered species also live at Western Ghats and around 325 globally threatened species.Â
101 Medals Won By India In Commonwealth Games
India hosted the 2010 commonwealth games in Delhi. We won 101 medals, including 38 gold medals. For the first time in the history of the Commonwealth Games, India won more than a total of 100 medals. It depicted India’s achievements and contributions in various fields. India stood in second position after Australia. India won a gold medal in athletics after Krishna Poonia won in women’s discus Throw.Â
Approval Of Right To Education ActÂ
One of the Greatest Achievements Of India was the approval of RTE bill by the cabinet on July 2, 2009. The Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha passed the bill on July 20 and August 4, 2020. The president signed the bill and it came out as a law on August 26, 2009. This law was brought into effect by a speech by the prime minister.Â
The law is effective across all parts of India except Jammu & Kashmir. According to RTE, education is the fundamental right of every child, of every race and class. Under this law, all private schools are required to reserve 25 percent of their seats for poor children.Â
Gold Medal Won In Olympics By Abhinav BindraÂ
Abhinav Bindra won a gold medal at 2008 summer Olympics held at Beijing. He won at the 10m Air Rifle event held on August 11, 2008. He was the first Indian to be awarded with an Individual gold medal for the country. Sushil Kumar also won a bronze medal at the men’s 66kg freestyle wrestling event. Vijender Kumar also became the first Indian boxer to win an Olympic medal.Â
Successful Completion Of Test Flight Of Indian Spacecraft SRE 1Â
It is one of the important achievements of India to return a spacecraft from its orbit. SRE 1 is an Indian experimental spacecraft. It was launched on January 10, 2007 by the Indian Space Research Organization from Sriharikota. It was in orbit for 12 days before it re-entered earth’s atmosphere.Â
Nathu La Reopening
Nathu La is the trading border between China and India. It’s a mountain pass that connects Sikkim and Tibet. This pass was sealed for use after the 1962 Sino-Indian War. It was reopened in 2006 to allow bilateral trade agreements between the two countries. The pass allows the trade of 29 Indian goods and 15 Chinese goods. The opening of this pass also makes the travel shorter and easier for many Buddhist and Hindu pilgrimage sites.Â
Right To Information ActÂ
The Right To Information Act was passed on 15 June, 2005 and came into action on 13 October, 2005. This act is active in all states and union territories of India except Jammu & Kashmir. The passing of this Act made the Indian government system transparent. It allows the citizen to acquire any and all kinds of information from the government. It is considered as one of the greatest achievements of India.Â
