How did India get her Name Bharat?

It was during the year 1950, on 26th January, the time when the Constitution of India had come into being. At this time the official name for India was chosen as Bharat. The name Bharat can go back to the time of the Great Emperor Bharata who is known as the initial conqueror of the whole subcontinent – India and the Republic of India. The great King Bharata was the son of Queen Shakuntala and King Dushyant. Thus, this was a brief about the name Bharat. As we move forward, we shall explore various other significant topics such as Bharatvarsha, Pandavas and Kauravas as well as the Bharata Dynasty. 

Bharatvarsha

As per the historical points, it may be said that King Bharata was the ancestor of the Pandavas and the Kauravas. It is said that Bharata was a great Emperor who conquered and reigned over the whole Indian sub-continent. The empire of the emperor Bharata was called Bharatvarsha which spread out from the Himalayas to the sea. Regarding Bharatvarsha, one may say that it referred to ancient India. As per records, one may say that there are differing views of various ancient scholars as to how the name Bharatvarsha was derived. However, it can also be said that there used to be a vast spread of Bharatvarsha. Few of the many significant parts of Bharatvarsha included the Himalayas, the Northern plateau, the Ganges region and so much more. 

The Pandavas included the five proficient and powerful sons of King Pandu who was the King of Hastinapur. The five Pandavas are Yudhistira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahdeva. The cousins of Pandavas are the Kauravas. The war of Kurukshetra was fought between the Pandavas and the Kauravas so as to decide who shall be the controller of the Hastinapur’s throne. Ultimately, in this war, the Pandavas were successful. Mahabharata can be explained as one of the greatest epics of the Bharat Dynasty. It is regarding the struggle for sovereignty amongst the two distinct cousin groups, that is, between the Kauravas and the Pandavas. The struggle leads to a huge battle on Kurukshetra’s field between the two cousin groups. The result of this battle showed how Pandavas won it. Thus, it can be concluded that in the war of Kurukshetra, the Pandavas became victorious.
