Uttar Pradesh Population according to the Census 2011
According to the reports of the 2011 Census, the state has around 19.98 crores of the population in its region, which was an increasing figure from 16.62 crores of the population in Census 2001. The total population of UP is 199,812,341 as per the Census 2011. From the stated figure, the state’s male population is 104,480,510, and the state’s female population is 95,331,831, respectively.
Meanwhile, in the 2001 Census, the state’s total population was around 166,197,921 in figures. From this figure, the male population of UP was estimated at 87,565,369, and the female population was estimated at 78,632,552, respectively. The state’s total population growth was 20.23% in 2011 and 25.80 % in the previous decade. The state’s overall population was 16.50% of the country’s total population in 2011. In 2001, it was 16.16% of the country’s population.
The religious population of Uttar Pradesh
The Hindu religion is the highest populated religion in the state, having around 79.73 promoters or followers. After Hinduism, Islam is the second-highest populated religion in UP, having around 19.26% of followers in the region. The third position is held by Christians, with approximately 0.18% of followers in the state.
The Jains consist of 0.11% of the population, Sikhism consists of 0.32%, and Buddhism holds around 0.32 % of the total religious population in the state. Likewise, the remaining 0.01% of the total religious population in UP is stated by other populations, and 0.29% do not describe any particular religion.

Among the state’s total population, 22.27% of people or groups reside in Urban areas. The total population is 44,495,063, out of which the male population is 23,487,515, and the female population is 21,007,548 living in urban regions. Although, the urban population of UP has increased by 22.27% in the last 10 years.
The sex ratio in urban areas of UP was 894 females per 1000 males. The urban region’s child sex ratio stood at 885 girls per 1000 boys. The total Child ratio residing in urban corners of the state was 5,750,748 in figures.

Current Population of Uttar Pradesh
At present, the state’s population density is 828 people per sq. km, emerging as the most densely populated state of the country. Kanpur and the capital of Uttar Pradesh, i.e., Lucknow, are the most populated cities of UP, having over 6 million people in its areas.
Every year UP adds more people to its increasing population and simultaneously witnesses an annual growth of 2%. As per the projection, the Government of Uttar Pradesh states reports an estimated population of 241 million people in the state.
As per the projected population data, the Population of UP is 241,066,874, i.e., 24.10 Crore at present. With an annual addition of millions of people in the state, the state’s population was estimated at 237,095,024 in the year 2020. Although, it is the only state in the country with over 240 million people in its 18 divisions.
Moreover, the state also represents a densely populated region due to its high state birth rate. Consequently, the huge population resides in 75 districts of the state, which were then distributed in various cities and villages.

The multicultural state of Uttar Pradesh is the densely populated state of the country, having around 240 million people in its region. Over the years, the state has witnessed significant growth in its population growth rate, witnessing 2% population growth annually. The literacy rate also witnessed an improvement, i.e., 70% in 2011, which was 56% in 2001.
