Growth of population in India from 2001 to 2011:
The population of India as according to the preliminary census of March 1, 2011 was about 1,210,193,422, which is approximately 130 million less than the recent population of China. The census that was recorded was, in total, very close to the figures estimated by the Registrar General & Census Commissioner of India and other organizations. It was in 1950, a few years after the attainment of independence, the total population of India stood at about 68 percent to that of China. Currently, it is at 90 percent.
A comparative analysis showed that where on one hand, the population of China expanded by a meager 7 million per year, that of India, on the other hand grew by about 18 million. India will probably surpass the Chinese population shortly after 2020, as predicted by the recent preliminary projections from the United Nations Population Division.
