The 3rd Indian Law Commission wrote the Act in 1866, and it was referred to a Select Committee in December 1867. The Selection was made by a high powered committee. The mercantile community objected to the various deviations from English Law. In 1877, the Bill was redrafted. After a suitable period for critique by Local Governments, High Courts, and Chambers of Commerce, a Select Committee rewrote the Bill. Despite this, Bill was unable to finish. The Bill was sent to a new Law Commission in 1880 by the Secretary of State. National Bravery Awards Selection Process
Every year, the International Council of Women (ICCW) receives applications for the National Bravery Awards. These applications are submitted by official organizations such as local and district governments, school authorities, and councils for the welfare of children and young people. Applications must be received by the 30th of September in order to be considered for selection for National Bravery Awards.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, presented the National Awards for Bravery, 2014 to 24 children
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that the brave deeds done by these children are proof that God has kept in each one of us, an element that inspires us all to live for others. He said not everyone gets a chance to die for others, but everyone has a chance to live for others. However, there are very few who are actually able to accomplish this.
Commending the children for their brave and selfless acts, the Prime Minister said that they had shown courage in the face of adversity, without bothering about the consequences. He said the “biggest beauty” of the deeds performed by the brave children was that, when faced with a certain situation, they could not stop themselves from acting with courage. He said that in the process, they had inspired others in society.
The Prime Minister said that for these children, the greater responsibility begins now. Speaking to the children, he said that fame and success can be slippery, and therefore they will have to keep their composure.
He urged the children to work towards their goals and dreams relentlessly, (bina thake, bina ruke, bina jhuke).
The Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt Maneka Gandhi, was present on the occasion.
The National Bravery Award Scheme was initiated by the ICCW to give due recognition to the children who distinguish themselves by performing outstanding deeds of bravery and meritorious service and to inspire other children to emulate their examples.
24 Young Bravehearts Bag National Bravery Awards – 2014
Twenty four children – 8 girls and 16 boys – have been selected for the National Bravery Awards for the year 2014. Four of the Awards have been given posthumously.The coveted Bharat Award for showing exceptionally gallant deed has been conferred on 16½ year old Km ReshamFatma of Uttar Pradesh, a victim of Acid attack, for putting on a brave face while fighting off her tormentor.
The prestigious Geeta Chopra Award has been conferred on13½ year old Km. Gunjan Sharma of Assam who displayed exemplary valour in saving her friends from the clutches of the abductor. The Sanjay Chopra Award has been given to 16½ year old Master Devesh Kumar of Uttar Pradesh who displayed outstanding courage while confronting two chain-snatchers.
Master RumohMeto (13½ years) of Arunachal Pradesh, Late Km. Riya Chaudhary (15 years) of Uttar Pradesh and Late Km. Monika (16 years) of Uttarakhand have been given the BapuGaidhani Awards. Master RumohMeto saved a person from electrocution, Km. Riya Chaudhary sacrificed her life while trying to save her father when some miscreants, who attacked her family members. Km. Monika lost her life while trying to save a child from drowning.
The selection was made by a high powered committee comprising representatives of various Ministries/Departments, non-governmental organisations as well as Office Bearers of Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW).

The awardees receive a medal, certificate and cash.Eligible awardees will be granted financial assistance until they complete their schooling. Some State Governments also provide financial assistance to them. In addition, ICCW provides financial assistance under its Indira Gandhi Scholarship Scheme to those undertaking professional courses such as engineering and medicine. For the others, this assistance is provided till they complete their graduation. The Government of India has reserved some seats for the awardees in medical and engineering colleges and polytechnics.
