The tradition of imparting knowledge is one of the main virtues of ancient India. The shishya (students) living with their gurus (teachers), known as ‘gurukula’, was the education type in India. Now, India is facing an era of science and technology. The evolution we find these days varies from the pattern that we would find 50 years back.
The present education system deals with technical education for students and imparts trade, craft and profession to reduce the unemployment status of youngsters.
Purpose of present education in India
The purpose of the present Education System in India is to promote national development, a sense of common citizenship and culture, and to enhance national integration according to the National Education Policy (1968). But some modification is given to this policy and has laid stress on the need for the reconstruction of the educational system to improve its quality at every stage, giving greater importance to science and technology, cultivating moral values and promoting the relationship between the education and life of citizens.
Education is a method to enlighten an individual to make them aware of what is right and what is wrong. Education is the basic fundamental right of each individual which needs to be achieved. Education is all about-

Competition to present education in India
In the present day, competition has become a part of daily life. Education plays an important role in this competition. The higher the qualification, the higher the chances of getting a permanent and standard job. Today’s students face many challenges related to this as the competition has grown stiffer and stronger than before. Those entering a new university or job market need to face the highly competitive well-educated rivals from India.
A child should be given the education to win over the competitions waiting for them in the coming future. Qualification in higher education supports the students in facing any challenges in the job market.
The positive side of the Indian Education System
The government has made many new initiatives in order to cope with the new advancements, and this is exhibiting a great increment in the percentage of education. There are many positive results obtained from the present education system of India, and they are-
- The advancement of the education system has made great development in the field of economy in the country.
- People are self-employed, and the unemployed are less in number.
- Child labour has gone down to a great extent due to the free education for children.
- Socially weak or financially deprived people are given reservations. For example, in present statistics, scheduled tribe (7.5%), scheduled caste (15%) and other backward classes (27%).
- Presently ICSE and CBSE are contributing more to education processes by imparting education till higher secondary along with the state boards.
- The open university facilities also provide education from home, and some institutions provide e-tutorials.
- The one important positive aspect of the Indian education system is the growth of technical institutions. There are more institutions than before that are providing technical education.
- There are so many engineering colleges in our country, so there is no dearth of engineering graduates in India.
- The new education system is focused on theoretical knowledge; students are able to learn more theoretical concepts, which help them in developing higher intellect.

Recent studies have shown that the Indian Education System is now far better and more progressing than the past Indian Education system. There are many goals to be achieved, but the correct implementation is the one which is lacking. Higher education is given more importance in the present scenario.
The new ideas on higher education show that the government is willing to take a step for the betterment of education. The policies related to the education system need to be improved to get good results. We need to cope with advancements in science and technology and the technical education system in India.
