About DTE Maharashtra
The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) is a department within Maharashtra that deals with the regulation of technical training institutes and academic programs. The DTE has been a part of the state government since 1963. The DTE is closely related to the DTEA, a state-level agency. The major responsibility of directorate education is to look into academic standards and monitor the technical education institutions across Maharashtra.
The Directorate of Technical Education was formed on 12 March 1961, following the abolition of the Ministry of Technical Education (MTech), which was constituted on 25 July 1954.
The main purpose is to look after technical education in Maharashtra.
Objectives of DTE
The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) was founded to create a uniform technical education system throughout the state. The main objectives of DTE are:
- To provide a high standard technical education at an affordable rate.
- To have uniformity among Technical Education institutions in Maharashtra state by having a time-bound plan and putting it into effect.
- To develop new and existing engineering schools, methods, studies courses, examination systems, and syllabus.
- To build a communication network between technical institutions to work together in creating a state-of-the-art system of education in the state.
Policies of DTE Maharashtra
The DTE Maharashtra provides a direction for technical education. DTE also has provided some policies to guide technical education. Every institution must abide by these policies to receive approval from the DTE Maharashtra.
Some of the policies are:
- Institutions must have a minimum of two teaching hours every day.
- The teaching hours per week in the form
12 x 2 = 48 and 16 x 4 = 64 hours of classes must be followed.
- Average class attendance must be at least 50 percent, which means no more than two consecutive days without attendance, or students will lose the right to continue their studies.
- The student must pass their mid-term and final exams in 4 years (Refer to semester system).
- Technical institutes must be affiliated with a university in Horsetooth. The institutes are affiliated with the University of Mumbai (MU), the oldest university in India, or any other university of their choice.
- To teach students for an extra hour every day after class hours via laboratory work, quizzes, etc.
- To have a library in every technical institution.
Maharashtra Education Department Circular 2021
Maharashtra education department circular 2021 states:
- The institutions will be permitted to take admission of students when they have accumulated an adequate number of credits. (Refer to semester system)
- It is unnecessary to complete a three-year course if the student passes their examination within two years. (Refer to semester system)
- Institutions will need not project their academic performance on their website and advertise it in magazines and newspapers to gain any advantage.
- Institutions will not be allowed to admit students for post-graduate diploma courses unless they have earned at least 15 credits. (Refer to semester system)
- The DTE Maharashtra will not monitor the performance of technical institutions in the Maharashtra state in a single year as per their annual performance report (Refer to semester system).
