At an elevation of 5,988 metres, Indira Col West is a mountain pass over Indira Ridge of Siachen Muztagh in the Karakoram Range (19,646 feet).

It is located at the tripoint of India, Pakistan, and China, on the boundary between the Indian-controlled Siachen Glacier and the Chinese-controlled Trans-Karakoram Tract (both in the disputed Kashmir area). 

In the Siachen region, the India-Pakistan Actual Ground Position Line (AGPL) comes to an end near the pass.

Indira Col East (Coordinates 35°39′40′′N 76°48′10′′E), also known as Main Indira Col or simply Indira Col (Chinese: ), is a col on Indira Ridge located 2.4 kilometres east of Indira Col West at an elevation of 5,764 metres (18,911 feet). 

It is more difficult to ascend or descend on the Chinese-controlled north side, but easy on the Indian-controlled south side.

Territories are contested on all sides of Indira Col. India controls the area south of the Indira Col West, which Pakistan also claims. The Trans-Karakoram Tract, located north of Indira Col West, is claimed by India but controlled by China per a 1963 boundary agreement with Pakistan.

With heights in excess of 7,000 metres and typical low temperatures around minus 50 degrees Celsius, the AGPL mainly travels along the Saltoro Mountains range, commencing with the northernmost point of the (LOC) at Point NJ 9842 and finishing northwest of Indira Col West in the north.

Because of its military activities in Siachen, India seized control of 1,000 square miles (2,600 km2) of the disputed area in 1984.

At 37°6 north latitude, Indira Col is India’s northernmost point. It is situated at a vital spot on Jammu and Kashmir’s northern frontier, where the borders of four nations converge: India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and China.

Indira Col is India’s northernmost point, and “Indira Point” in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands is its southernmost. The furthest east point of India lies at Kibithu in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district, while the extreme west point is near the “Guhar Moti” in Gujarat’s Kutch.

Easternmost Point Of India

Indira Point is a settlement in the Nicobar district of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in India, and it is the country’s southernmost point. It’s in the tehsil of Great Nicobar.

Rondo Island is Indonesia’s northernmost island, located in the Sabang district of Sumatra’s Aceh province, 163 kilometres south of Little Andaman Island and 145 kilometres or 80 nautical miles north of Indira Point. 

Under a strategic military and commercial partnership, India and Indonesia are modernising the deep seaport Sabang to guard the strait between Great Nicobar Island and Rondo Island (c. May 2019), which is 612 km or 330 nautical miles from Indira Point.

Indira Point is a hamlet named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. [5] Pygmalion Point and Parsons Point were the previous names for the point. During the mid-1980s, it was renamed after Indira Gandhi. When Indira Gandhi visited the local lighthouse on February 19, 1984, a local Member of Parliament made the announcement. On October 10, 1985, the official renaming ceremony took place.
