The city; Chandigarh is recognized as the joint capital of the two bordering states, namely Haryana and Punjab. The city is bordered by Punjab in the west, north, and south and Haryana in the eastern part. The city is 260 km away in the northern direction from the country’s capital city; New Delhi. Earlier, Chandigarh was popularly called the ‘Tricity’ because the two cities; Mohali and Panchkula were located adjacent to Chandigarh. However, with time, other important towns kept on growing such as Zurakpur and Kharar, and the region became famous as the Chandigarh Capital Region (CCR). The city of Chandigarh is one of the most planned cities in the country and also in the world and it is one of the best projects to date in post-independence India. Chandigarh is very rich in both culture and modernization and currently, it is one of the most desired cities to live in due to the vast facilities and modern infrastructure that it offers. The per capita income of the people living here is one of the highest in India and as far as the Human Development Index (HDI) score is concerned, it is also among the highest in the country.
Chandigarh Weather
Typically, Chandigarh experiences long and dry summers when the skies are very clear. The average summer temperature of Chandigarh is 36 degrees Celsius. The temperature goes as high as 44 degrees Celsius on certain occasions. The summer lasts for about 2.5 to 3 months (April to June). The month of June is the hottest in Chandigarh. During this time, occasional showers and thunderstorms may occur.
The winters are short and dry and the maximum temperature in the winter months is about 20 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is about 8-9 degrees Celsius. January is the coldest month in Chandigarh and the winter season overall lasts for about 2.5 months.
Rainfall is very much inconsistent in Chandigarh and arrives just after when the summer ends in June. Therefore, the months from September to November are considered the best time to visit the place when the weather is most pleasant.
Chandigarh: A Planned City
Chandigarh is the first planned city in India. It is extremely popular for its urban planning and architectural designs mainly. The city has a great mix of culture and modernity and is considered one of the best cities to live in because of the infrastructure it has to offer. The world-renowned Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier was the man who made the master plan for the city of Chandigarh and he was responsible for designing the urban structure and planning of the city. The city has multiple famous architectural designs designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Matthew Nowicki, and Albert Mayer. These four names are very important for the design of the city. Le Corbusier’s most important building is the Court House which is the High Court of Chandigarh. The building is higher compared to the other eight lower courts in Chandigarh. Most of the architecture has great resemblance and similarities to other French projects and architectural designs made by the same architects.

Chandigarh is one of the best cities to live in. Because it was a planned city, it has tremendous potential to engage in multiple activities and has great city infrastructure. The architectural designs and building here are one of a kind and very diligently uphold the culture and history of the place. Weather-wise, summers are long and hot, winters are cold and dry.
