A computer is an electrical device that helps individuals perform many tasks in day-to-day life. The name mouse is given for its resemblances with the animal mouse given to humans to do various numerical calculations, using mechanical calculators like side rules and the abacus. Computers can store, process and retrieve data. It is also used to email, browse the internet to collect information. The great advantage is that it can do multiple tasks like accounting formulas, management of databases, playing games and presenting PowerPoint presentations.

Mouse: Pointing device

The mouse is a pointing device in a computer. It is generally used for pointing to various tasks on the monitor. The mouse has two-dimensional motions on the surface that allows a smooth control of a graphical user interface in a computer. A mouse controls the pointer motion in two dimensions in a “graphic user interface” (GUI). The mouse controlled the movement of the hand equally forward and backwards. A mouse is used for pointing to various things such as files, folders, icons, actions or programs,

  • Point: The motion of the pointer needs to be selected on a specific object that the user wants to perform. A mouse is named after the “pointing device” for this act of pointing. Likewise, the act of pressing and releasing the button is called “pointing”.
  • Drag: Drag means pressing and holding the mouse button and moving it before releasing it. It is often used to copy or move files or other different objects through drag and drop. For example, drag can be used for selecting drawings and text in graphic applications.
  • Scroll: Scrolling is used to change the view of the computer screen by moving graphics that are displayed left and right or up and down. Scrolling can also be done using the scroll bars located on the right side or at the bottom of the window. The mouse’s position needs to be placed over the scroll bar (for instance, the scroll bar is on the left); the left mouse button needs to be held down and moved in a downward motion. This would enable the view down. Nowadays, every mouse has a scroll button with it. The scroll wheel presented in it is used for scrolling the view up and down.

Directly click on the Various Icons: Procedures

The main feature of the computer mouse is to point the various objects on the monitor. In context to directly click on various icons, the various types of clicking are mentioned below-

Single click( left)

The main button needs to be clicked here.

Double click(left)

The button needs to be clicked two times in quick succession. That is used for a different gesture. Double-clicking is used for program launching. It is also used for opening a folder, file and to select a word from an entire document.

Triple-click(left)

The button needs to be clicked three times in quick succession.

Right-click

It includes clicking the secondary button. It is used as a shortcut for opening a menu, which has a common option that is associated with a particular item.

Middle-click

Here it is necessary to click the tertiary button.

The mouse is frequently used for clicking on different icons. It can also be used for changing the position of the icons. First, it is needed to move the mouse’s arrow to the desired icon, and then icons need to be selected by clicking on the left button of the mouse. Finally, the mouse should be dragged to change the icon’s place in the expected place.

Three buttons

A mouse generally comprises three buttons. Mouse that comprises three buttons is Left, right and middle button (scroll button). The left and right keys have major functions.

  • The left button is usually used for an icon, file, and folder selection on the monitor.
  • The right button is used to perform additional activities on the computer, such as copying, pasting, and cutting.
  • The scroll wheel is used for up and down the view on the monitor.

Conclusion

A mouse is undoubtedly an important pointing device for the computer system for accomplishing various activities. It includes various buttons such as right, left and middle buttons (also known as scroll wheel). Each button plays a different role. However, the left button is generally used in a major way.
