Though connected to the telephone, the user cannot make or receive phone calls through this service while accessing the Internet. Dial-up connections are very slow, though they have the least expensive rate. Dial-up connections which run on an as-needed basis use ‘modem’ which connects the computer to the phone line.
Broadband
Another method to connect to the Internet is via Broadband services. Unlike Dial-up connection, Broadband provides high-speed Internet to its users. It is provided either by telephone companies or via cables. This broadband internet is available to its users via various modes, based on one’s location. It transmits wide bandwidth data, suggesting its name, thus has super-fast speed. There are various types of broadband services through which the Internet can be provided like fibre optics, satellite, wireless Broadband etc. With its fast speed, you will be able to stream online videos, download large files and games without a hassle. By determining the amount of bandwidth required by you, your location and depending on the provider’s reliability, you can choose your broadband service in a smarter way.

With the immense advancement in science and technology, our fully-featured smartphones have the advantage of providing us with wireless connections and access to the Internet. As it is wireless, one saves the exorbitant cost and hassle of installing numerous cables for providing high-speed Internet. One just needs to be close enough to the cellular service tower or mobile, which provides the hotspot in order to gain access to the Internet.
Now, while we are talking about wireless connection, let us get to know what Wi-Fi is? This wireless internet connection uses radio waves to transmit wireless Internet and data to your Wi-Fi enabled device from your router. Thus, comes the concept of Wi-Fi hotspots. They are sites, which with the help of a router, offer internet access over a WLAN or wireless local area network.
Some other methods to connect to the Internet include Satellite services and cables. Satellite service can provide internet services in rural areas or areas where internet services cannot be accessible by wired lines or cables. The equipment for satellite internet is somewhat similar to TV satellite service but uses different antennae for its function. Due to extreme weather conditions like wind, hail or storms and rain, the speed and bandwidth could be compromised.
