Main Examples of Computer Hardware

Other than a motherboard, numerous other hardware makes up a computer. Below are some examples of computer hardware with its functions.

The physical components of a computer that its system requires to function are computer hardware. From a webcam to the motherboard and from a Central Processing Unit (CPU) to a power supply, and also the basic ones like keyboard, mouse, monitor, several components qualify as computer hardware.

Although the plan and design of hardware contrast between work area computers and workstations because of their disparities in size, similar centre parts will be seen in both. There would be no chance of running the fundamental programming that makes a computer so valuable without hardware. Programming is characterised as the virtual projects that suddenly spike in demand for your computer: working framework, web program, word-handling archives, and others.

Internal and external computer hardware components

The computer hardware components can be categorised into- internal and external components. The internal hardware components are the ones that are installed inside a computer. Example- motherboard and Central Processing Unit (CPU). In contrast, the external hardware components are the components connected to the outside of a computer. Examples- keyboard, mouse, monitor

Some primary examples of computer hardware

  • Motherboard

Also known as mobo, a motherboard is the main printed circuit board. Operating as a hub from where all the other hardware runs, a motherboard also houses the CPU. It assigns power to the other components and is also responsible for coordinating different components by enabling communication between them.

  • Power supply

All computer components require direct current (DC) to work. Hence, a computer system must have hardware that converts alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC). It is where power supply comes into role. To prevent overheating of the system, a power supply also controls voltage.

  • Central Processing Unit (CPU)

A CPU is the hardware responsible for processing all the information from the programs run by a computer. Gigahertz (GHz) is used to measure the speed at which a CPU processes information.

  • Random Access Memory (RAM)

The hardware component found in the motherboard’s memory slots is known as RAM. It is responsible for temporarily storing on-the-fly information formed by computer programs.

  • Hard Disk Drive (HDD)

The primary data storage device of a computer is the HDD. The hardware component stores software titles, operating systems, and files.

  • Monitor

This familiar component is the hardware that displays video or graphical information of the computer. These are also termed video display units.

  • Mouse

The hand-held pointing device used to navigate through the screen is a computer mouse. A typical mouse uses optical sensors to direct the cursor.

  • Keyboard

Like a type-writer, a keyboard allows a user to interact with the system. It is an input device used to input characters, text and commands.

  • Speakers

Speakers are a specific output device utilised to listen to music, films, and other sounds. Although they are accessible in a scope of various characteristics and costs, the more refined forms have an extra subwoofer to improve bass results.

  • Printer

Printers are output gadgets that produce printed versions of electronic information put away on the computer, for the most part as text or pictures on paper. The most widely recognised current printers use inkjet or laser innovation and interface with the computer either utilising the USB port or through WI-FI.

  • Desktop image scanner

It is an input gadget that moves pictures or text to a computer utilising optical innovation. The computer changes the sign to an advanced picture, empowering it to be altered, messaged, or printed.

  • Joystick

It is also a pointing input device used by players to play computer games.

  • Headphones

These are hardware output gadgets used to listen to the sound. Ordinarily, they plug into a computer line out or the speakers. They empower the audience to appreciate music, motion pictures, or other sounds in private and without upsetting others nearby.

  • USB flash drive

A USB flash drive is a convenient information storage gadget. Dissimilar to optical drives, USB drives have no moving parts, making them more sturdy. Instead, a USB drive has an incorporated USB interface associated with the computer using a USB port.

  • Projector

The output hardware component that empowers a roomful of individuals to encounter visuals created by a computer is a projector. They can “project” still or move pictures onto a clear wall, screen, or another surface. Current computerised projectors are regularly utilised to watch motion pictures, improve presentations, or as educational help. The interface is through the HDMI port.

Conclusion

Computer hardware components are the physical equipment of a computer system. Numerous hardware components can be listed for a computer, from a motherboard to a projector. Typically, the computer hardware components are regulated and directed by the software. Software controls the hardware components to execute a command. Both hardware and software, when combined, form a meaningful computing system.
