Introduction

Being a part of a world that develops and grows every second, either culturally or technologically, one is well aware of the concept of devices and their importance around the world. Every day somewhere around the world, someone is planning to invent a new device. Or let us be affirmative enough to say that, someone invents a new device. To be precise, devices are insanely famous among Teenagers. Every teenager has better knowledge about devices- when compared to people of other ages. The younger generation is blessed to be born in a world that is ruled by technology and its types of equipment. However, this point is quite debatable. Because the increasing use of technology has made the younger generation comparatively distinct.

Now, devices can be as tiny as an ant or as large as an elephant. But, they tend to be as useful as a painkiller when you are suffering from traumatic pain. Therefore, language can also be device when used properly. In the English Language, there are different devices used in poems and poetry, articles, fictional stories, etc. These language devices are often known as literary devices. There are 14 commonly used literary devices.

Let us discuss the electronic and literary devices separately.

Technological Devices

Devices are mechanical or electronic equipment used by people from all over the world. Some of the devices include computers, scanners, web cameras, monitors, blue tooth speakers, etc. These are all commonly used by us in our daily lives and play an essential role too.

The first digital computer was invented in the year of 1937. If one compares the technology of the first invented computer device and today’s computer devices, one would see the difference. The difference will be concerning the software, hardware, look, features, internal storage, etc. Similarly, the size and resolution of the monitor have changed gradually. In today’s era, Laptops are preferred over monitor computers. This is mainly because Laptops are portable and simple to handle when compared to monitor computers.

Devices are invented or designed to make the lives of people simple and stress-free. It is just like technology intending to make life easier for people. But, how far is it true? The answer to this question is quite neutral. Devices made life easier- we can get to look at our loved ones while talking to them using web cameras. On the other hand, it made life difficult by becoming a habit. Gradually, people have started to be dependent on these devices and technology more than ever- creating a nuisance.

Let us look at different types of Devices.

Categories of devices

The different devices can be classified under two heads- Input devices and Output devices.

Input devices are devices that deal with the writing of data into a computer. These devices include- keyboards, mice, joysticks, web cameras, etc. These devices send out raw data into the computer, just so the computer can process the information and signal it out. Input devices cannot receive data from other devices.

Output devices are devices that help in displaying data from the computer through the use of different Input devices. These devices display the data in the form of various textual and graphical contents, audio, and videos. Some of the Output devices include- monitor, projector, etc.

Let us discuss the use of devices in language.

Literary Device

Literary devices help in enhancing the writers writing and their ideas. These devices help in strengthening the writing and language of a writer. It adds texture to the content and at the same time excites the readers. It helps in adding to the imaginations and enriching the information to the readers. Overall, Literary devices are techniques used for narrations by the writers. Many literary devices are used in the English Language. Some of the commonly used literary devices include- Metaphors, Smilies, Apostrophe, Repetition, Rhyme, Alliteration, Consonance, Symbolism, Personification, Pun, Irony, Paradox, etc.

Among all these, Apostrophe, Repetition, Rhyme, Consonance are Poetic Devices. Before understanding Poetic Devices, one must know the common literary devices. These devices deal with the stanzas, rhyming, meaning, rhythm, length of the line, etc. Poetic Devices examples include: “Night-sight” (Rhyming words), “She sings sincerely with her soulful sound” (Alliteration), etc.

Conclusion

Devices play an integral role in the 21st Century. This is mainly because this era is the era of development and growth. Technology has come to an extent, where inventing new devices is quite a familiar concept. Devices can be electronic, technological, or language-oriented devices. The technological devices can be categorized into two heads- Input and Output devices. The language-oriented devices are also known as Literary devices. Literary devices play a significant role in enhancing the writing language. Therefore, devices- technological as well as literary are significant in their own way.
