Computer Networks

A collection of computers linked together by wires, optical fibres, or optical connections, allowing various devices to communicate with one another through the network-defined computer networks.

Networks are designed to distribute resources among a variety of devices.

There are several different types of computer networks, ranging from the simplest to the most complicated.

Computers, printers, scanners, Fax machines, etc., are all examples of these gadgets.

Sending and receiving data stored on other computers through the network is the primary purpose of establishing a network of computers. Various devices can communicate via a network defined by a collection of interconnected computers connected by cables, fibre optics, or optical links, commonly referred to as “nodes.”

Define computer networks in  brief

A computer network is made up of the following components:

An international interface card

A network interface card, or NIC, is a hardware component that facilitates computer-to-computer communication. These addresses are found on network interface cards, and data-link layer protocols use them to transfer data between computers.

Wireless NICs and wired NICs are both forms of NICs.

Wireless NIC: All recent laptops have a wireless NIC built into the motherboard. To connect, the antenna in Wireless NIC uses radio-wave technology.

Wired NIC: The data is transferred over the medium via a wired NIC.

Hub

Several computers and other devices are connected to one network hub. Information from computers is transferred to the Hub when they ask for it. To all connected machines, the Hub transmits this message.

Switches

A switch is a device that connects all networked devices and enables data to flow between them. The message is sent directly to the device to which the switch belongs, rather than being broadcast over the network. As a result, the message is transferred directly from source to destination using a switch.

Connectors and cables.

As a transmission medium, communication impulses are sent via cable to reach their destination. There are three different types of cables available:

Router

A router is a device that connects a local area network (LAN) to the Internet via a network cable. The router is most commonly used to connect two or more networks or connect the Internet to a collection of devices.

Modem

Telephone lines link a computer to the Internet, which is done through a modem. In this case, the motherboard does not have a modem built-in. The modem is a separate component from the motherboard and must be purchased separately.

Computer Network: Its Uses and Applications

In networked environments, resource sharing refers to the distribution of resources such as programs and printers across the network’s users, regardless of where they are physically located about the resource or the user.

The server-client model takes advantage of computer networking. System administrators are responsible for maintaining servers used to host databases. Server information can be accessed remotely via clients, the computers that make up the remote server network.

The network acts as a conduit for information exchange among its various end-users. Many companies have email systems in place for their staff to utilise regularly.

Interpreters

If you are unfamiliar with the term, “interpreter” describes a computer program that executes instructions directly from scripts or programming languages rather than compiling them first.

Topology of the network

The topology of a network refers to how the network’s links and nodes are connected. Physical and logical network topologies are classed according to the physical signal transmission channel and how data moves through the network between devices, regardless of the physical connection of the devices. Token ring and twisted-pair Ethernet are two examples of logical network topologies under the bus and ring categories.

There are a variety of physical network topologies that can be applied to a network, such as a star or mesh network or a point-to-point or circular network. It is important to consider the size, scope, objectives, and financial resources of the company while determining the best network topology. Nodes and linkages between them are depicted in a network topology diagram to make it easier to see how devices communicate with each other.

Conclusion

If you have two or more computers connected by a communications system, you have a network. Networks are used to exchange information and distribute resources. If there were no networks, companies would be unable to swap resources and improve efficiency. WANs enable organisations to connect to the Internet from a distance because they enable connections to the Internet via a wide-area network (WAN). An international meeting can now be held via video conferencing and data exchange, allowing greater participation. As you can see, there are numerous advantages to using networks.
