Characteristics of Fifth Generation Computers

The fifth generation spans the years 1980 to the present. VLSI technology evolved into ULSI (Ultra Large Scales Integrated) technology in the fifth generation, resulting in the fabrication of microprocessor chips with 10 million electronic components.

Computers of the Fifth Generation

Japan’s Ministry of Trade and Industries began developing the 5th computer system in 1982. VLSI technology has progressed in this generation to become ULSI technology, which stands for Extremely Large-Scale Integrated. In order to make microprocessor chips, ten million circuit boards were utilized. Logic programming as well as parallel processing computation were used to construct the computer of the fifth generation. Parallel processor hardware and AI (Artificially Intelligent) applications were used in this generation of computers. Artificial intelligence is capable of demonstrating the tools and methods for making computers think like humans. This generation uses a variety of high-level languages, including C and C++,.Net, Java, and others.

Modern computer’s fifth generation (1990 onwards)

Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) gave birth to Ultra Large Scale Integration (ULSI), which contributed to the development of microcontrollers with millions of electronic components. Throughout that time, there were also powerful laptops, tablet PCs, and desktops.

In essence, the fifth generation is about a new amazing computer. These machines will be capable of reasoning and making judgments. The computer is being programmed with artificial intelligence. In place of traditional Von Neumann architecture, groundbreaking parallelization has been used in the new generation of computers. Massive storage development: We now have SSD storage, which is much quicker than HDD, as well as a few additional technologies in the works, so we may expect larger and faster  storage in 5th PCs.

Computers of the Fifth Generation: Characteristics

  • System with many processors: We employ approximately one processor per CPU, while there are some parallel computing computers in use, but they are restricted and incomplete.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already in use, but it is continuing in development. We expect to see AI deployed everywhere in fifth-generation computers, from navigating to surfing, from daily word-excel sheets computing to heavy-duty picture processing and video analyzing, and so on. AI will transform into a personal assistant, automating nearly every aspect of computers.
  • Optical fiber is used in circuits.
  • Components of programmes are being developed.
  • Automatic audio in any language to regulate the computer’s workflow.
  • Chips with magnetic capabilities
  • Massive storage development: We now have SSD storage, which is much quicker than HDD, as well as a few additional technologies in the works, so we may expect larger and faster  storage in fifth-generation PCs.
  • Macro and micro computers that are more powerful
  • Artificial intelligence (AI) is gaining great strength.

Benefits of Fifth Generation Computers

  • They’re high-capacity storage units that run at a rapid speed.
  • They can interact with people through sign language, pictures, graphs, and other ways thanks to AI (Artificial Intelligence).
  • They are less expensive than computers from previous generations.
  • For better and expanded performance, they use parallel computing and superconducting wire technology.
  • They have the ability to reason and make choices, just like humans.
  • The technology employed is ULSI (Ultra Large Scale Integrated).
  • They are dependable and productive.
  • They require little upkeep.
  • Because they are tiny, they require less area to install.
  • They’re employed in weather research as well as forecasting.
  • They are quite transportable.
  • It is  Cost-effective, faster, consume lesser electricity

Computers of the Fifth Generation: Present and Future (Artificial Intelligence)

Artificial intelligence-based fifth-generation computer devices were in progress, however some capabilities, such as voice search, are now in use. Artificial intelligence is becoming a reality because of the usage of parallelization and superconductors. In the coming years, quantum computation, molecules as well as nanotechnology will fundamentally alter the face of computers. The objective of 5th computing is to create machines that can learn and self-organize and reply to natural speaking skill. Artificial intelligence-enabled computer systems are in progress, although some of these technologies, such as voice recognition, are starting to appear and be deployed. IBM’s Watson, which has appeared as a contestant here on TV show Jeopardy, is among the most well-known instances of AI in computers. Apple’s Siri just on iPhone and Cortana using Windows 8 as well as Windows 10 desktops are two other well-known examples. Google’s search engine also makes use of AI to process user queries.

CONCLUSION

The fundamental goal of this system is to make development in artificial intelligence & incorporate it into a new generation of extremely powerful computers which can be used by the average person. AI-based systems are employed in a variety of real-world applications and give a variety of benefits. In instances when a type of knowledge and ability is required, these systems perform effectively in scenarios that a man can learn through formal training. They do not, however, fit in situations where there is a need for tacit and explicit knowledge and a human can get it by talking in natural speech and is concerned with form and speech recognition.
