  4. Some facts O During a steady flow process, no intensive or extensive properties within the control volume change with time. O Work done in a non flow process: PdV O Work done in a flow process: -VdP

  5. Some steady state flow energy devices: O Nozzle: increases velocity of fluid. O Diffuser: increases pressure of fluid. O Turbines: drives the electric generator OCompressor: increases pressure of fluid.

  7. Throttling Valve O It is a flow restricting device which generates significant pressure drop in the fluid. O Pressure drop done without involving work. Done with the large drop in temperature. This is a reason for it being used in refrigerator or AC O Magnitude of pressure drop governed by JOULE THOMPSON EFFECT.

  8. Common facts about throttling O Isenthalpic and adiabatic process O No work done, change in potential energy also 0 O Exit velocity is considerably higher than inlet velocity, but in many cases, increase in KE is negligible.
