😊 thanks Dear 😍
Was really helpful for revision... Thank you, ma'am.
In the GATE 2004 question, can we use this logic that as the partition is removed, the gas will diffuse into the entire container and so will expand and as expansion reduces temperature, so the final temperature will be less than 298K ??

No. It is equal to 298. That is the concept of adiabatic mixing

Refer to the original paper for full Question. It taljs about frictionless piston movement

okay mam.
The answer for gate 2004 question is wrong. It will be less than 298K. Here the nothoing is told about piston. (moves freely, frictionless, etc) therefore change in work not 0.

check the actual gate 2004 Question. it is said frictionless there

4. GATE 2007 A perfectly insulated cylinder of volume 0.6 m3 is initially divided into two parts by a thin, frictionless piston, as shown in the figure. The smaller part of volume 0.2 m has ideal gas at 6 bar pressure and 100 C. The other part is evacuated. Q.82 vacuumm 0.2 m stopper At certain instant of time t, the stopper is removed and the piston moves out freely to the other end. The final temperature is (A)-149 C (B) 33 C (C) 33 C (D) 100 c

5. GATE 2004 O A perfectly insulated container of volume V Is divided into 2 equal parts by a partition. One side is under vacuum and other side has 1 mole of ideal gas (with constant heat capacity) at 298K. If the partition is broken, the final temp of gas in container will be? 1. >298kK 2. 298K 3. <298K 4. Cannot be determined

6. Limitations of 1st law of Thermodynamics O Heat always flows from high temp to low temp. O Energy balance of 1st law does not distinguish between heat and work.

7. Need for 2nd Law O 1st law says nothing about direction of flow of heat. O Does not give idea about of feasibility of the process. O It does not tell us anything about quality of energy. It only deals with quantity
