Iceland
The Global Peace Index has declared Iceland the safest nation globally. It is for the 13th time consecutively. It is a Nordic country with a small population of about 340,000. A small population, high trust level, a great social attitude, an educated administrative force that is well trained, and limited tension between different economic and social classes are a few others that contribute to it being the safest country. Interestingly, Iceland does not possess any military power, and the cops there aren’t armed, and they have pepper spray and extendable batons.
New Zealand
It ranks as the second safest nation across the globe. New Zealand also tends to have a relatively low crime rate. However, theft is quite common among tourists. This country does not have any deadly animals. The people in New Zealand are open-minded, and this country’s laws help prevent abuse of people’s freedom of expression or speech.
Portugal
It ranks as the third safest country in the world. Since 2004, when Portugal was 18th globally, it has taken a huge plunge to be where it is now. Portugal has armed police, and however, it is only helping in decreasing the crime rate. This country has also worked on reducing its unemployment rate. It is now the best place for retirement across the globe.
Austria
This country ranks fourth when it comes to being the safest country. It deteriorated because of violent demonstrations after Sebastian Kurz’s election in 2017. Social unrest increased because of political instability; otherwise, it’s a safe country to visit. There are no serious crimes. Besides, there is no terrorism here.
Denmark
It is not just a safe country but also the happiest globally. It is a country where people feel safe all the time during the day and at night. It has high equality levels and social welfare responsibility, and you can rarely find corruption in politics or business. It is a welfare country where employees get perks and services to live a comfortable life. They have healthcare, free education, and at-home care for the elderly.
Canada
It comes sixth, and it has been maintaining this rank since 2019. It has great scores on political stability, crime levels, and internal conflicts. Besides, it has great job opportunities, an effective government, and access to medical care.
Singapore
This country comes next. Citizens of this country feel secure personally, and when it comes to law enforcement, they have a positive experience. It also has a relatively low crime rate. They could manage to do this because they levy huge penalties for very small crimes. There are no aggressive crimes here. They also rank number one for infrastructure.
Czech Republic
The Czech Republic has climbed two spots up from the year 2019. It was ranked 10th before, and now it has reached 8th position. The crime rate here has relatively decreased, although; they have access to guns and weapons. They are also involved in conflicts with other countries.
Japan
Japan is the ninth safest country. It has managed to be in the top 10 for the 13th time now. It has always received a great score because there is no political terror or internal conflict, and the crime rate is low. Some areas could be troublesome, like its troubled rapport with the neighbouring countries. The self-defence force is increasing in power and size. It has limited immigration and firearm access. It also does not believe an individual has the right to carry a firearm.
Switzerland
The last on the list is Switzerland. It has a 1.366 score and ranks fifth in safety and security. Along with other peaceful countries, it ranks among the highest arms exporter per capita for five years. It ranks fourth for food safety. It is one of the top ten peaceful countries in the world for ongoing international and domestic conflict.
