Reasons and Implications in a Nutshell: Syrian Crisis

Along with other regions, Syria was in the news recently as the west Asian region has been under political turmoil. The Syrian crisis may have many reasons, due to the conflict and the absence of a proper government. Due to the conflict, the Syrian region lacks much human, social and economic development and will take many decades to become a pre-war-like region. We will discuss this Syrian crisis – its reason and implications.

What Is the Syrian Crisis?

Syria is a west Asian country which borders other regions like Lebanon, Turkey, Israel, Jordan and turkey. The civil war, which began in 2011, is still ongoing and is the most severe crisis ever in Syria. There is a reason behind the unrest in Syria that built up the Syria crisis: political turmoil.

Reasons for the Syrian Crisis

The primary reason for this crisis and violence in Syria is the conflict was political turmoil between Sunni Islam and Shia Islam. These two are the main sects of the Islamic religion. The west Asian region is divided into these two classes of leaders. Saudi Arabia defined itself as the leader of Sunni Muslims and Iran as a guardian of Shia Muslims.

Another fact which starts with this is the absence of responsible government in the region. There is no democratic government ruling on this matter. This is why there is a disconnect among the citizens of West Asian countries. The revolution was named ‘Arab spring’, and the jasmine revolution started in 2011, and this representative and democratic movement started against the authority and government in Tunisia. This movement was the reason for the outcome of situations in other countries where the citizens were inspired to raise their voices against the authority of a country or their government.

The Implication of the Syrian Crisis

The civil war was so devastating because of political turmoil that it had made the country lacking in so many things like economic, social and human development.

These are the significant impact and implications of the Syria crisis:

Syria’s economic growth has decreased to a lower level, and its GDP is very much less than what it was before the civil conflict. The country will take more than a year to build a pre-conflict region. The financial status has fallen below the poverty line.

Economic loss and the infrastructure have been damaged, and the building, schools, roads, water supply etc., have been destroyed so much that now it will take so much time and money to rebuild them.

There are so many people in Syria who have lost their life and family, more than 250000 Syrian people. Along with innocent adults, the children were also harmed and injured in the conflict.

Everything was destroyed in the conflict; approximately 6.5 million people were displaced and separated from their families and homes.

Why Are Syrian People Leaving Their Homes?

Syrians are leaving their houses because of political turmoil and the destruction happening in the region. The violence led to so much death and devastation. Around more than 60,000 people have died, including half the number of children, and many were injured during this civil war. This conflict became more dangerous after the external power joined the battle.

There is also a tremendous hazardous impact on their lives and affects their schooling and peaceful lives. They have suffered many injuries, lost their families, and experienced brutally led violence.

How Does the Syrian War Affect the Life of the Children?

This conflict has affected the children in Syria’s mental and physical health. They have to suffer a lot and lose their family members. This war has many devastating implications for their life:

  • Civil war would increase more child labour

Due to the destruction in Syria, now children have to work to support their families, which has led to child labourers at a high rate.

  • Lack of educational and other opportunities

Many school buildings have been destroyed, and the education and infrastructure quality have decreased to a down level which led many children to lose the opportunity of growing and getting an education.

Conclusion

Syria has faced so much devastation and destruction due to the conflict, but now it needs to rebuild its power and infrastructure. The International forces should support Syria along with India. As many Indians are working in this country and residing there and therefore it’s a responsibility and priority of India to help Syria rebuild its region. Syria is likely to face this instability for quite a few years. The more the Syrian war goes on, it will still face the problem of political turmoil, devastating unrest in Syria, and creating havoc in the peace and stability globally.
