With an expanse of around 30 million square kilometres and a population of 1.2 billion people, Africa is indeed the world’s second-largest continent by land mass and populace. Africa has 54 UN-recognized nations like Sudan and Libya, two autonomous entities with restricted or no UN acknowledgement, and other areas under the administration of non-African regions. Because of Africa’s difficult political atmosphere, imperial heritage, and continuing insurgencies in several nations, the precise figure of legally recognized countries in the area is still a point of contention. Sudan

Sudan is a nation in northeastern Africa formerly listed as the Sudanese Republic. The central African Republic borders it on the southwest, Chad on the west, the northwest by Egypt, the northeastern by Eritrea, the southeastern by Ethiopia, the northwestern by Libya, the southeast by South Sudan, and the northern by the Red Sea. As of 2022, it has a populace of 45.70 million citizens and covers 1,886,068 sq. km. It is Africa’s 3rd largest country by size and the Arab League’s third-largest member by size. Until the independence of South Sudanese in 2011, this was Africa’s as well as the Arab League’s biggest country by size. Since then, Algeria has held both distinctions. Khartoum is the capital, and Omdurman is the most populous city.

Libya

Libya is a Northern African country with deserts covering 90 per cent of its territory. The word “Libya” is a native name. Libya covers 679,182 sq miles, making it Africa’s fourth-biggest country by size as well as the world’s seventeenth-largest country by the populace. Libya does have one of the highest GDPs per person in Africa due to its vast petroleum resources. General Muammar al-Gaddafi led the nation for more than forty years, and his international policy frequently pitted him against the Western nations and many other African countries. On the other hand, Libya openly abandoned any nuclear ambitions following the US Iraq invasion, and Libya’s international relationships are now less tense.
