SSC CGL Types of Exams

The SSC CGL examination will be conducted by the concerned authorities in four tiers as mentioned below:

  • Tier I: Computer Based Examination 
  • Tier II: Computer Based Examination 
  • Tier III: Pen and Paper Mode [descriptive paper]
  • Tier IV: Computer Proficiency Test/ Skill Test and document verification according to the specific requirements 

Scheme of the Examination 

  • Tier I and Tier II tests will consist of MCQ type of questions
  • The questions will be available in both English and Hindi language except the English comprehension in Tier I and Paper II in Tier II
  • In Tier, I examination, there will be a negative marking of 0.50 for each wrong answer
  • In Tier II, there will be a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in Paper II  [English language and comprehension] and 0.50 for each wrong answer in Paper I, Paper III and Paper IV
  • In Tier II, Paper I and Paper II are compulsory for all posts
  • In Tier II, Paper III will be for those candidates who will apply for the posts of the Junior Statistical Officer in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and Statistical Investigator Grade-II in the office of Registrar General of India (M/o Home Affairs) and who are shortlisted in Tier I for these posts
  • In Tier II, Paper IV, only shortlisted candidates in Tier I for Paper IV will appear for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer
  • Tier III paper must be written in Hindi or English. If one part of the examination is written in Hindi and the other part in English, candidates will get zero marks
  • In Tier III paper, candidates must write the correct roll number on the cover page of the answer booklet. Additionally, applicants have to sign and put the left-hand thumb impression in the relevant columns of the answer book
  • In Tier IV, the computer proficiency test [CPT] and data entry speed test [DEST] will be conducted by the concerned authorities

Note : 

  • An answer booklet containing incomplete information will be given zero marks
  • Candidates should avoid writing any personal identity on the paper, and if they do so, they will be given zero marks
