Everything you need to know about the power formula is provided below. Please proceed to read the whole document carefully to understand the topic completely.

Energy may be defined as the ability to do work. Power may be defined as the amount of energy that is used up to do one unit of work per unit of time. It is denoted by the letter P.

The formula of Power (P) is-

P=E/T and

P=W/T

Where,

E is the energy consumed to complete a work,

W is work done,

And T is the time taken.

These three formulas are used to calculate the power in any electrical circuit.

It is stated as follows in terms of voltage and current:

P= VxI

As far as current and resistance are concerned, it is stated

P=I2R

Voltage and resistance are referred to as a pair.

P= V2/R

Here Voltage is represented by V,

The circuit’s current flow is equal to I,

Resistance is equal to the letter R.

A Power circuit’s resistance, voltage, and current may all be calculated using the Power Formula. The Watt is the universally accepted metric unit of power measurement.

Solved Examples

Q. In 10 seconds, an electric machine consumes 300 J of energy to do work. How much power does it consume?

 Work done= W=300J

Time take= T=10s

= P=W/T

=300/10

=30 Watts

Q. Vimal, who weighs 60 kg, climbs 12 meters in 40 seconds. Compute his power .

Mass=M=60kg

Time take= T=40s

Height=H=12m

=P= work done/time

P=MGH/T

=60×9.8×12/40

=588 watts
