Introduction
The Government of India’s Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is a national public health insurance fund that aims to provide low-income Indians with free health insurance coverage. This program benefits roughly half of the country’s population. The program allows participants to see their own family doctor for primary care. PM-JAY provides free secondary health care for those who require specialist treatment and tertiary health care for those who require hospitalisation when they require it.
The program is means-tested and is part of the Indian government’s National Health Policy. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched it in September 2018. The National Health Authority was later established by that ministry to administer the program. It is a federally sponsored program that is funded equally by the federal government and the states. It is the world’s largest government-sponsored healthcare program, serving 50 crores (500 million) people. Because the program’s users are low-income Indians, it is a means-tested program.

Conclusion
When the Ayushman Bharat Yojana was launched, there were concerns about how it would fit in with other existing health development recommendations, such as those from the NITI Aayog. Starting with infrastructure that needs to be developed to be part of a modern national system would be a major challenge in implementing a national health care scheme. While the Ayushman Bharat Yojana aims to provide excellent healthcare, India still faces some basic challenges, such as a shortage of doctors, an increase in infectious disease cases, and a national budget with a low central government investment in health care. Some of the issues are not related to the Ministry of Health, such as urban development or transportation. Many government hospitals have enrolled, but many private corporate hospitals have not.
