Verbal and Figure Classification

Verbal and Figure Classification is an important section in the logical reasoning of competitive exams. It basically follows the concept of the odd man out depending on various parameters.

Introduction:

Verbal and Figure Classification is an important logical reasoning topic that differs from traditional reasoning questions. The key aspect of these questions is that they are created to evaluate the applicants’ observing  Ability. One of the primary topics of logical reasoning is Verbal and Figure classification. Figure Classification is also known as non-verbal classification. Verbal and Figure classification questions and answers depend on various types and parameters. Here four options will be given depending upon the type of classification either verbal or figure, then you need to classify the out man out to get the answer. Verbal and Figure classification test your general intelligence.

Types of Classification:

In classification, there are some options, and you need to figure out which is different from others. There are basically two types of classification, verbal classification, and figure classification. It further has many parameters in both verbal and figures classification.

  1. Verbal Classification

Types of verbal classification are the following:

  • Words classification

 In words classification, some words will be given, and some have similarities in them, and one is different from the other. So an odd man out should have to be picked.

  • Letters classification

In letters classification, some letters will be given, and some have similarities in them, and one is different from the other. So odd man out should have to be picked.

  • Numbers classification

In numbers classification, some logical sequence will be given with the numbers. Candidates have to understand the sequence and pick the odd man out. 

  1. Figure classification

Figure classification is also known as non-verbal classification. In figure classification, some figures will be given, and some have similarities in them, and one is different from the other. So odd man out should have to be picked. Candidates have to identify a figure that is different from others or does not follow the pattern which is there in other figures.

Criteria used for  figure classification:

  • Rotation of Same Figure
  • Number of Element or Lines
  • Division of Figures
  • Similarity of Figures
  • Relation between Elements of Figure
  • Interior-Exterior Consideration of Elements

Tricks for solving Verbal and Figure classification reasoning:

  • Use General intelligence.
  • Observe the patterns carefully.
  • Do calculations for number classifications.
  • Observe the similarities and differences in the given items.
  • Always follow the odd man out principle.
  • Create a 3D image of figures in your mind for figure classification.

Verbal and Figure classification questions and answers

  • Verbal classification questions and answers.

  • Choose the group of letters which is different from others.
    1. AOT
  • CPA
  1. REB
  2. TIW
  3. QOD

ANSWER:- In all other groups except CPA, the middle letter is a vowel. Hence the answer is CPA.

  1. Of the following, five are alike in a certain way and so form a group, which is one that does not belong to that group.
    1. Tortoise
    2. Frog 
    3. Rat
  • Snake
  1. Mongoose

ANSWER:- Snake, as all others have feet.

  1. Choose the number of players who are different from others.
    1. 2-8
    2. 3-27
  • 4-32
  1. 5-125
  2. 6-216

ANSWER:- In all other pairs, the second number is the cube of the first number. But it is not true for Option three. Hence the answer is 4-32.

  1. In the following question, four words are alike in some manner and make a group. Choose the one which does not fit in the given group.
    1. Kanpur
    2. Allahabad
    3. Varanasi
  • Mathura
  1. Haridwar

ANSWER:-  Here, all except matura, our cities situated on the Ganga river banks. Hence the answer is Mathura.

  1. In the following Question, five numbers are given, four of which are alike in a certain way. But the remaining one is different. Choose the one which is different from the other four.
  • 121
  1. 137
  2. 153
  3. 177
  4. 183

ANSWER:- 121 is the only perfect square number in the group. Others are non-perfect square numbers. Hence the answer is 121.

  • Figure classification questions and answers.

  • In the following question, a group of five figures is given, Out of which four figures are similar to each other in a certain way, and one is different from the other. Find the odd figure out.

 

 

Answer: After examining the above figure, it is found that except (d), all figures can easily be obtained by clockwise and anti-clockwise movement of each other.

  1. In the following questions, a group of five figures is given, Out of which four figures are similar to each other in a certain way, and one is different from the other. Find the odd figure out.

Answer:- All except figure (c) contains the odd number of arrows.

  • In the following questions, a group of five figures is given, Out of which four figures are similar to each other in a certain way, and one is different from the other. Find the odd figure out.

Answer:- Let us consider the two adjacent bent lines as a pair. Then, in each figure except (d), there are two straight lines between the bent pair and the remaining bent line when the direction of bent is considered.
