Observations 1. An exact square never ends in 2, 3,7 or 8 Perfect square ends in Square root ends in Recap 42 = 16 52 25 62 86 7249 82 64 92- 81 102 100 l or 4 2 or 8 6 9 0 or or 0

Basic rules Find Vx If x 11449 then 1 14 49 Find V X Arrange xin two-digit groups from right to left. If on left hand side, a single digit is left, count it as a group too. Number of digits in the square root Number Number of digits in the square root= Number of groups derived Y25 has 1 group, V1024 has 2 digits +961 has 2 digits and so has l digit .

Eg: Calculate V6889 = a . Two groups : 68 and 89 So 2 digitanswer Wo groups: Since 68 is greater than 64(82) and less than 81(92), the first figure must be 8. Last digit 9 So'a' has last digit 3 or 7 So a . Soa is 8/(3or7) i.e. 83 or 87 . How to decide whether 83 or 87 2m . How to decide whether 83 or 87???

Whether 6889 83 or 87 > What is 85 ?pp 85 7225 6889 => 85 > 16889 So, V6889 has to be less than 85 V6889 8:3

Eg: Calculate V5776 72 < 57 < 82 So first digit is 7. 5776-74 or 76 75 5625 5776 5776> 75 -V5776 76

Cube Roots: Observations Perfect cube ends in Cube root ends in 23 8 33 27 4 64 53-1 25 6 216 78 = 343 8 -512 9 729 .10 1000 2 3

3 Basic rules to find 7x Make two groups pairing 3 d gits from the right side first . -write 4913 as 4913, 804357 as 804357 Remember whose cube ends with what digit for 1-9 Remember whose cube ends with what digit for 1-9 .
